Python Origin

I need a little background on a Colt Python 4" Nickel or Chrome .357 It is in fine shape and is accurate as well. It came with no box or literature at all. Any info would be helpful. This is a keeper pistol as far as I am concerned and want to know everything about my new friend. Serial # 939XX with Y under the # and an O to the right.
