My first 1911 was a 70 Series Colt .45 LWC. I bought it at a pawn shop and it looked really nice with only a slight hint of wear around the muzzle. I carried it for years and now she is a safe queen. If I carry a 1911 now it is a Chuck Daly Commander or a Norinco 1911.

When I was 9 my grandmother wanted me to clean out the shed of a Widow who was a friend of hers. I found an old 1911 made around 1914 or so rusted open. Even then she wouldn't give it to me but gave it to my grandfather.

My grandfather who was in WWI, may father who was in WWII and an uncle who was in Korea helped me get it working by my 10th birthday. Of course having an Army/Navy store that had every part for a 1911 except for the frame and slide helped. Still remember going there with my uncle and pawing through a bin of used barrels and barrel bushings.

Have owned only Colts since---just put money down on a new Colt the other day.

First was also a 1991 used blue, then a stainless, also used. Which I had stainless customized with sights and accurizized action and trigger action. Also was one of my biggest profits in 1911 collecting, what that custom 1991 did.

First one I ever fired was my dad's WWII 1911. Got to put maybe 4-6 rounds through it, one round at a time, maybe one round a year, from the time I was six years old until I was about 12, when dad left. That 1911 left an impression that never left me.

I got to shoot a 1911 briefly when I enlisted in the USN (1977). Probably six rounds?

First one I owned was a POS Colt 1911 (not A1) that I bought at a gun show when I was about 25...that would have been around 1981. That thing would not fire two rounds in succession. Turned me off of 1911s for a good while.

Fortunately, I made a full recovery, and have owned about 50 of them since.

Unless I die in my sleep tonight, I have probably not owned my last 1911.

If I die in my sleep tonight, my widow has some 1911s for sale.

Mine was an STI Trojan .45 blued. 100% perfect function at 3200 rounds. It's all stock, no mods. I'm about to replace the recoil, main and magazine springs.

My first 1911 was a Colt Commander, with the deep blue Colt finish.

My second 1911 was a Randall full size, right after they came out.

Wish I still had both of them.... sigh.

Colt Delta Elite Blue. Liked it so good I bought the stainless version the next day. I still remember it like yesterday. I paid $375 for the blue one and $450 for the Stainless one.

My first was an AMT stainless Gov't Model, sometime in the late '70's or early '80's. Got bit by the 9mm double stack bug and bought a BHP. When my first child was born and money got tight, I had to choose between the two. I figured the Browning would hold it's value better, so I sold the AMT. Fast forward about 30 years (still have the BHP) and I picked up an RIA Tactical as part of a trade deal. Not long after, a Colt Commander XSE found its way into my ccw battery.

First one I ever owned (1982 or so) was a Colt 1911 (not A1). Total POS. Wouldn't feed anything...FMJ or JHP. Got rid of it and didn't own another 1911 until around 2001.

Since then, I've owned 25 or so. Between the wife and I, we currently have five or six.

My first 1911 (and my only semi-auto pistol to date) is a Remington r1, base model. Paid $658 brand new in the box through my local gun store who had it there within two days of ordering it. I love it, it shoots more naturally than my uberti peacemaker and my 51 navy, and I don't ever plan on getting rid of it.

My first 1911 was a Israel Arms M5000 Gal Commander I picked up at the local pawn shop. It was a good gun but hated the sights and it would've not been cost effective to have the slide recut therefore I sold it. Now I have a Springfield MC Operator and a Para CCO I built. A Springfield 1911 A1 Milspec is on my short list of wants.

Sometime in the early 90's it was a Springfield Compact in 45 acp. Officers frame(aluminum) with Commander slide. Traded it off years ago and regret it. Also had a Springfield SubCompact from same time frame with bull barrel. Traded that one also.

My first 1911A1 I reported on earlier, a Remington Rand from DCM in 1963 for $15.00 + $2.50 shipping by Railway Express. My last GI 1911a1 is a pristine Colt 1944 issue that I received in trade for an original M1A1 Carbine stock a few years ago. This pistol appears to have all original parts and shoots as good as it looks. Since then I have purchased another Remington R1’s, a Star Model P 1911 clone ( excellent shooter) and a new Colt 1911a1 that my best friend gave me for Christmas.
