Cable lock use on shotgun.
A cable lock came with my Mossberg 500 pump shotgun. The cable goes through the ejection port, with the bolt rearward.
When the bolt is rearward, is the firing pin spring, or any other spring, compressed? I have been concerned that if the gun is stored for a long period of time, using this type of lock, that it could effect the spring tension. |

Springs can lose out or wear out from many cycles of full compression (semi-auto pistols or automobile engines), but just sitting there in a partially-compressed condition does nothing harmful to them.
