The new marlin .338 mx

Now i have heard stories of people taking down grizzlys with a single shot from a marlin 45 70... But now my question is,
will the new marlin .338 mx bring down a charging grizz?
any answers would help me alot....

The last grizzly hunt I went on the .338 was at the low end of acceptable rifles by my guide.

I imagine that if you put the bullet in the right place it will take down a charging grizzly as well as any .338 Federal. Remember you are talking about a cartridge that will possibly have a bullet 100 grains lighter and with a much smaller frontal diameter than the .45-70. If you put the bullet where it is needed it will cause sufficient trauma to drop any bear dead in their tracks.

I can't find any data on the .338 MX but I'm guessing it is based off of the .308 MX so it will run probably about 50-100 fps slower than the .338 Federal with the same weight of bullet. Remember that is just an EWAG because the 160 grain .308 MX is a little slower than the standard 165 grain .308 Win load from Hornady.

If it were me and I had to deal with a charging bear, I think I'd still want the .45-70 over the .338 MX for close range work.

I'm sure it will go clean through a little old black bear from stem to stern!

These guys have most anything:

...and many people take black bear with .44magnum and .30-30, which are considerably lighter rounds.
