270 win COL and seating question

This is my first attempt at a rifle cartridge.
I am loading a 270 win for a savage 110
I am using the Nosler second addition data page 267
I am using a case already fired from my gun and trimmed to 2.54
I have a hornady OAL gauge
Powder 55 gr h4831sc & nosler ct ballistic silver tip 130 gr.
To determine my rifle seating depth I used the OAL gauge
I also used the dummy round procedure and they both concurred that the dimension was at 3.415 I then subtracted -.025 which would give me an OAL of 3.390
My dilemma is the Maximum S.A.A.M.I. overall cartridge length is 3.340

If I seated the bullet at the 3.340 spec then my bullet would have to travel
.075 before making contact with the rifling.

Should I leave it at 3.390 or should I use the 3.340?

Will the 3.390 fit in your magazine??? and will they feed without a problem???

Yes it fits in my magazine and chambers properly

As long as ther is at least 0.277 inches of bullet inside the brass neck, then you are set to go. The longer seating close to the lands may or may not optimize your loads for accuracy. Some experimentation may be needed.

As far as what happens by seating further out, you will get less pressure in the case, provided that the jump to the rifling is long enough. In some instances, there is a possibility that the pressure will rise slightly. That is why you start loading low and work up, looking for pressure signs.

If your off the lands; your bullet is seated inside the case neck at least one caliber (.270"); and the ammo will fit in your magazine and feed in your rifle then you'll be ok.

I decided to seat at the saami spec of 3.340 shot 5 rounds and am satified with the group.

Hi Ed.
I know every gun is different so I was going to let you know about mine. I have a remington model 700 .270. Currently I am shooting 130gr Nosler BT with the yellow tip. I am using IMR 4350 with both Winchester and Remingtion Brass with CCI #200 Primers. I load it with 53 gr of powder. I tested mine using the instruction with the Nosler reloading manual and I seat mine 3.357. I have shot 40 rounds with this particular load with no signs of pressure problems or any kind of problem from loading and unloading. I hope this helps you out some. I found a great youtube video on how to constuct my own OAL gage using an all threaded bar and tubing. I tryed it out and works great. I am going to stick with the seating depth I am already using.
