For fixed, it has to be KABAR for me. For anything from game knife to hammer, to pry bar, it'll take serious amounts of punishment and/or wear before it will fail.
For REALLY, REALLY fixed, go for the Cold Steel Boar Spear! |

Fixed Blade: Small Ka-Bar USMC model
Folders: Emerson CQC7A, serrated blade I don't carry a knife all that often, but when I do, one of these goes with me. Also a big fan of CRKT designs-among others, I have an M16-12, Lightfoot Urban Shark LUS-02, and a Crawford Kasper medium folder, plain blade. Hoping to get an M21 shortly; I really like the feel and balance of the aluminum handles. CRKT's are really good knives for a fair price-I like to see what's new in their line, because their designs are so innovative and varied. To answer the question, what I have works for me and I have selected it carefully. That's not to say I would never consider something else, but right now, I'm very satisfied with my choices. |

Swiss Army Champion. It's been with me to Asia once, to Europe twice, Canada once and many times across our own Continent. I even gutted a deer with it once. Now that wasn't by choice as I've better knives but the Champion was the only one I was carrying at the time. Yep, I'm not the sharpest stick in the pile.

For me it depends on where and what I'm doing; in town I generally carry the swiss explorer, in a bad area Gerber exchange a blade folder, in the woods I really like Chris Reeves fixed blade survival knife(Hollow handle for storage, but not the "rat tail" tang design, its one solid 12 inch hunk of steel).
Now if you like throwers in my opinion there are only two choices; Case XXX 11', or Gil Hibbens 11' throwers. (I think they've been discontinued but they pop up on gunbroker from time to time.) Double-edged Gerber mark III, I believe its called, hands down, if you can afford it. (I've seen them in the 400.00 price range and up.) SOG makes a decent version though for about 90.00. All around favorite but illegal to carry in CA. and several other states, yet not illegal to own (As long as it stays at home.) is my Pacific Cutlery Balisong or butterfly. Pacific Cut. changed its name to Benchmark several years back, but they still make good quality blades. I think I probably like knives as much if not more than firearms. |

CRKT M-16 "special forces'
this knife has a 3.5" tanto blade, with "flippers" on both sides that form a handguard when the blade is deployed.

Local knife maker here in MO. has some fine equipment. His name is Randy Breadon. He makes and sharpens knives. Of particular interest was a knife holster that had magnets in the leather. The knife wouldn't fall out if the sheath until pulled by hand. Very nice. The knives and sheaths were all very nice quality. Anyone interested can email them at

Buck Knives. Quality. Durability. My wife got me my newest Buck last Christmas. Although it is a hunter's knife, it has served all my needs. It is the "Alpha Hunter" folding knife. It comes with a nice black case for your belt.

Microtech SOCOM. The only lock I REALLY trust with my little wigglers...
The Camillus HEAT is nice, too, and has a pretty decent lock for the price. Larry

Folder - Emerson Commander I love the quick opening out of the pocket. When I first saw a demo of it, it looked like the guy cut his pocket off to get it out so fast.
Fixed - Ka-Bar tanto |

Favorite folder - it's a tossup between my CRKT PointGuard or my BM 551 Griptillian.
Favorite fixed blade is my BM Rant DPT (Drop Point Tactical)

Sorry about the messed up picture, but the website split it up into 3 different pics, and so I had to get creative to just get it here
