What do you reload the most? Rifle or Pistol

Just finished a reply to another post on load testing and it struck me I do not know which I reload the most. (rifle or pistol).

It seems to go in spurts, sometime rifle only, sometime pistol only. I have different press for each, so it is not that the press is tied up for one or the other. I shoot 40 S&W the most so you would think it would be pistol, but no. I just bought (Christmas) a new AR and have been knocking myself out doing 223s. But I shoot competion and use 9mm for that. I had a box of Nosler 85 grain partitions in 243 sitting on my desk for 2 years that I bought at a LGR when they were clearing out their reloading supplies (1/2 price). I usually load only Hornady 105s for 243. (haven't reloaded 243 in over two years) Just finished 25 of the 85 grain Noslers. Tomorrow is a trip to the indoor range and the 40s are comming out, will need to replace what's used.

Well there you have it, I have no idea what the LLEH I do more of?

I hope you know, that's why I am asking.
Jim

My pride and joy are the rifle loads, which used to be 90% or more of my reloading.

However, 9mm and various .32s* have worked their way up to at least 50% of my reloading in the last year.
(*.32 Auto, .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R, and .327 Federal for my (wife's) Blackhawk).

It doesn't hurt that a Dillon 550B finally made it to my bench - making it that much easier, and that much faster to load for the 9mm.

probably about 250 to 1 pistol vs rifle only because I shoot a lot of pistol when I get out vs accuracy rounds shot with rifle.

Total volume - 90% pistol, 10% rifle.
Total labor/ time spent reloading and working up loads - 10% pistol, 90% rifle.

More pistol by far. Like the others, I shoot a lot more pistol than rifle. Cost is also a factor: with my pistol loads, I use home cast bullets; but, with rifle loads, I use commercial jacked bullets.

Another factor is caliber. I often shoot only a few rounds of center rifle and a lot of rim fire.

An additional factor is packaging. If I go to the range to shoot "a box or two" of ammo: that's 100 (maximum) pistol rounds or 40 (maximum) rifle rounds.

For me the answer is somewhat problematic as I reload a number of different calibers but I shoot them in different platforms. I currently load 30 Carbine, 38spl, 357mag, 40s&w, 45acp, 10mm, and .223 / 5.56.

I load a lot of 38spl and 357mag but shoot most of it through my Rossi 20" carbine and 24" rifle leverguns even though I also shoot it in my SA Cav model 1873 clone.

I've worked up long range loads my rifle and love to use the tang sight to 'ring the steel' at 300yds with a 357mag round. So does that count as a pistol or rifle load?

I also load a fair amount of 40s&w and while I shoot a lot of it in my Glock 22, 23, and 24, I also shoot a bunch of it in my 40 cal carbine. So again, does that count as a pistol or rifle load?

I load quite a bit of my .223 for both my AR carbine and A4 rifle and I also like to shoot my M-1 Carbine. My 45acp and 10mm are for my custom longslide G20/21L Glock.

The way I look at it, while I load predominately pistol calibers, I shoot mostly rifle or carbine platforms.

I answered pistol, but I load much more ammo for my revolvers than I do for my pistol.

Pistol, mostly because I only load precision type rifle rounds, one at a time, carefully measured in every way. My handgun rounds are just "slapped together" low-mid-range loads for fun shooting.

Pistol loads, I'll shoot 10X as many pistol rounds as I do rifle.

mostly rifle due to the cost of the rifle ammo I use. You can still get pistol ammo at a fair price sometimes but not 257 roberts or 30-06 220 grainers
