What's a good aftermarket +capacity mag Sig 229 .40

I bought a couple 15 round promags back in March - initially they seemed OK but the 2nd time I tried to use them I got jams like crazy. Gave the sig a good cleaning, loaded up known to be good ammo, and tested them against the factory mags last weekend - the promags are just unreliable and that's 100% it.

Anyone have experience with a brand that works as well as the factory mags do, which comes in a 15 round version?

I've read you can put the 226 mags in the 229, but they are loose in the later models of 229 (which is what I've got), so don't want to go down that path... At some point a 226 in 9mm w/ the 20 round mags is in my future, but that's not in the budget so hoping for a little capacity upgrade for the meantime

Thanks!

Factory and MecGar mags are good. I don't get how ProMag stays in business.

Thanks - ya I should've looked into it, was buying other mags and wanted something for the sig, saw them and just ordered based on the reviews at the site. They are so freakin bad I would say for all intents and purposes they do not work - that reminds me I will go create a real review.

Sig OEM and MecGar mags are great, the MecGars are almost always cheaper and often identical to the Sig OEM mags, and I don’t even say the “P” word, their “old version” P225/P6 mags are still available everywhere, yet I still seek out decent used OEM mags which always work but are getting hard to find & pricey.

I have had no problems with the Mec-Gar "PLUS 2" magazine for the SIG P229 .40:

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/produ...65595520103.do

This magazine has a 14 round capacity allowing for 15 round carry capacity if the pistol is topped off.

I have one Promag magazine for a Beretta Cougar that regularly falls out of the pistol.

"...a good cleaning..." You do that to the mags before using 'em? Mind you, ProMag stuff is known for being low quality.
Sig factory mags run $44 each. ProMag's are about $30. That's how they stay in business. In most cases, the best mags are factory mags for any firearm.

SIG factory mags can be had for cheaper than $44. Are ProMags cheaper still? Absolutely, but they're very expensive when you consider how unreliable they are in many cases. Even in your example 1.5 times the cost for something that actually works as opposed to something that often doesnt seems like a book brainer to me. But a lot of people don't know that ahead of time.

They are excellent magazines.

Thanks!

As far as Sig mags go - the reason I didn't buy more Sig mags is I want more capacity, I believe the .40 Sig mags only go to 12 rounds for a 229. Is that wrong?

The "good cleaning" I referred to was my pistol, not my mags

I do not buy anything except for OEM and Mec Gar, not even for range toys. The last non-oem/mec gar I bought were Pro Mags for my Hi-Point carbine. I had to tweak the heck out of 'em to get them to function properly. Never again.

Quoted for truth. I swear they should just market themselves as failure training mags.

Mec-Gar. Always fantastic mags.

Flush fit magazines branded SIG or Mec-Gar for the P229 .40 S&W have a capacity of 12 rounds. The Mec-Gar "PLUS 2" magazine that I provided a link for has a base plate that extends a short distance past the magazine well.

If you want to try to make your ProMag magazines more reliable, upgrade the springs by using Wolff extra strength springs. The employees at USA mags must have went to work at ProMag after USA went out of business. Same quality.

Because they know a huge segment of the population will just buy the cheapest option on the market and is too lazy to enter their name into a quick Google search.

Thanks again guys. Very interesting idea on the spring swap, may be worth a try.. or may just buy the better mags.
