Check around with the local gun clubs.
If you're not familiar with any, try the sanctioning bodies web sites for clubs that hold their kind of matches. Like IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, Silhouette, Cowboy, 3Gun, Skeet, Trap, Sporting Clays, and others. Most local clubs hold a variety of types of matches. There's a good chance a local club that holds any of the above matches will also have those of the type you seek.

"...to go watch..." There's nothing to see unless it's an IPSC/IDPA/Metallic Silhouette shoot. Like g.willikers says, going to the assorted shooting game web sites will give you club locations.
Lotta clubs don't allow spectators either. So phone first. Start here though(CMP club. Think M1 Rifle). Don't be surprised if somebody offers to lend you a rifle either. Shooters are like that. https://www.myvssa.org/

T. O'heir,
I disagree with your comment about not much to see. I first got involved in silhouette by going to watch a shoot. Watching a 3 gun event got me interested in it too. The same thing happened when I went to watch a steel challenge match. You get to see what is expected, talk to the shooters about what gear is needed and then you decide whether it is something you will enjoy. The local club has all kinds of events that are open to the general public. People who watch are admitted free and we sometimes see them back to play the game. |

On the other hand, just going to watch may be discouraging.
Like thinking "I'll never be able to shoot that good." And then you leave and never come back. Seen it many times. Too bad. Instead, bring your gear and go to actually participate, not merely to watch. No matter how you do, you will have enough fun to return. Guaranteed.

Check out the Coming Events section of the NRA's online Shooting Sports magazine. It lists every registered competition in every shooting venue in every state...with contact info.
