Rock River 308 owners

What "all purpose" ammo are you using?
I hear 160+gr is best in RR's, but not sure.

I'm not a avid target shooter, nor hunter.. just want a literally all-purpose ammo that feeds well, gets along well with RR composite mags, and will deliver decent performance at a decent price.
After a couple proving boxes, I'll buy ~1000 rounds of whatever works well.

Federal gold match 308. We shot that and a load of 46 grains of Varget with the 168 sierra. The Varget load was more accurate but you didn't mention reloading.

1000 rounds of that being over $900, I'd reload.

In all honesty, I’ve used the federal lake city white boxes (149 grns) for target practice out to 450+yds with great success. 20rds for $11

May depend on what standard you want your "all purpose" ammo to meet. Neither of my 308 RR's like under 165 grainers. All my RR's (223/308) are capable of extremely good accuracy, usually around .5 moa, although not all of them are set up to take advantage of their accuracy potential. In 308, going to "standard weight" 150 grainers opens em up to 1.5-2 moa. They function fine with the lighter bullets, but their accuracy potential degrades.

Sorry to say, you need to test fire enough of several different options to determine the answers for your questions.
Since you say you're neither a target shooter or hunter, I have no idea what to recommend. With those use parameters, just try the cheapest 150 grain soft point.
