I am preparing to begin reloading for my Ruger .41 Magnum BlackHawk (6.5" bbl) and .45LC BlackHawk (5.5" bbl) for this years hunting season. I was wondering what others have as "pet" loads for these cartridges for these firearms. Thanks and take care!

My pet load for the .45 Colt is 8.5gr Unique under a hard cast 255gr lead SWC with a CCI 350 primer. Very accurate in my guns. This is a standard velocity load, but still has more than enough power for hunting at reasonable ranges.

Check out this web site www.sixgunner.com/linebaugh/dissolving.htm
That should give you all the information you want about the 45 Colt.

What type of game are you after? And what type of bullets do you want to use? Lead or jacketed?

Good luck,
Garrett

"Iff'n ye blows yer laigs off, don't come a'runnin' t' me!" The usual disclaimer...
These are warm loads, so reduce 10%, racheta, racheta...
.41 Magnum, in my Blackhawk: 15.5 grs. AA9, WW Primer, cast and moly'd 240 SWC, 1250 fps.

.45 Long Colt, my S&W 25: 13.0 grs. Blue Dot, WWprimer, 255 gr cast and moly'd RFN, 950+fps.

Two of my three all-time favorite handgun rounds, good to see other guys shooting them! The 3rd? Can you say ACP?

I've been shooting 41's for almost 20 yrs and the 1 load that I've shot more of than any is 20gr H110,Federal primer and Nosler 210 gr HP. Had a Blackhawk once that preferred Blue Dot,don't recall the charge however. My 45 Colt loads have used H4227(some unburned powder, but a good load) Unique and Universal Clays all use either 255 SWC or 250 jacketed HP. Swifter, I agree 1000% these 2 along with ACP round are my favorites !

Check Alliant Web page, you can get some
pretty impressive loads out of Herco, and they shoot good. I also use and like Hodgdon's Titegroup. I'm talking 45 Colt here, no experience with 41 Mag.

I guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to loading the .45 Colt and .41 Mag. I long ago standardized on one load for the .45, because it is powerful, accurate, and can be shot in any gun except the early black powder SAA's: Lyman #454424, cast hard and sized to .454, over 10 grains Unique with standard primer. In the .41 I use three loads: The 210 grain Keith SWC hardcast lead or Sierra jacket HP, over 17 grs of 2400. (I have used as much as 19 grs of 2400, but the lower charge is more than adequate to drive one of these bullets through a deer endwise or a bear crosswise, so I go with the lower charge.) I also have an old Lyman roundnose #410426 mold that throws a 240 grain slug in wheelweight metal. I size it with a flat nose punch to make a .25" meplat, and load it over 14.5 grs of Blue Dot. Makes the .41 a 44 mag in all but waistline. Your gun may not like these loads, so use them carefully, if you use them at all. slabsides
