WC145, good post on what is great ammunition IMHO.
Federal's 9BPLE 115 gr JHP is affordable enough for decent practice and to ensure reliable feeding one's carry piece, it's accurate in the guns tested (also my Mklll BHP, M11A1, P290, P225A1, and a venerable Colt Series 70 Gov't Model), and expands well in a valid testing medium. Further, I'd opine that the FBI protocol regarding penetration through barriers is less important for civilians than it is for LEO's. For me, as a civilian, I'm shooting, if forced to, in a defensive mode; whereas LEO's may need to take the fight to the aggressor. For the majority of street encounters that I can imagine, as well as home invasion scenarios, over-penetration is real and valid concern for me. The Federal round tested addresses those concerns, and its shortfall vs. the FBI penetration "standard" is a positive attribute, IMO. It's only drawback that I can see, is that it doesn't cost over a buck a round for the cachet of a 'magic' bullet....YMMV but it's a good choice for my guns and living arrangements. Rod
