Reducing the trigger pull weight on an 870...

Hi,

Can you just cut the spring down, or should one just buy a lighter spring?

Thanks,

-Spazz

I'm no gunsmith, but leave that spring alone. Clean up the sear and hammer notches with a hard Arkansas stone, lube good....

Dave McC is telling you right, don't ever cut springs. The best way is clean up all contact surfaces. Hammer/sear/pins wherever metal touches metal.

Besides stoning the sear and hammer notches, you can get a marked reduction by putting a small drop of STP Oil Treatment on the engaging surfaces. I don't claim credit for this, I got it from Bill Wilson.

About your only other option than what's listed here is a Hastings trigger group. Runs close to $300. George
