I also have to say, a 55gr bullet at 3700fps is very deadly.

If it can be reliably accurate.

My 243 days have been 87-grainers. This was the first time I'd even handled a 55gr pill in 6mm.

Now 223/55gr SMKs look/feel like bullets. But as I was picking up each one of these squat little 6mm things
to seat them, they felt more like "disrupter" pellets than anything else. They would make one h3ll of a mess
upon impact -- "...even at 3,750..."

+1 again. The CED is the first thing I've seen that appears to compare with the Oehlers. Big sturdy timing gates
and modern brains behind the remote readout impressed me. (But if you find yourself in the mood, Oehler's making
the Model-35 again.)

Wow, thank you Mehavey for such a comprehensive trial of my problem. Do you think the velocities are lower than book because of the long throat of the chamber letting gas bypass the Nosler 55gr bullet before seating on the lands?

I just worked it up to 46gr of Varget with the 55gr Nosler ballistic tip and the CCI #200 primer, in a RP case, and got 3910fps. The primer was flatter but no cracks and it didn't damage the case any, ejection was normal, and it resized again ok. I think the moly does indeed lower the chamber pressure by reducing the friction of the bullet in the neck and the barrel. Since it's not fouling the barrel with copper, logic says that friction has been reduced. It must take quite a bit of energy to rub copper (galling) off onto the barrel. I was getting groups of about 1" with 41gr, although my benchresting is just on a bipod and I need to make a sandbag rest still. I have to check to see how it groups now. (It's very handy to live on 238 acres on the prairie of Colorado and have a 1000yd range at the house). Seven prairie dogs today proved that even at 41gr and 3320fps, a 4" hole in a 4" rodent is enough, even at 300yds. I'm trying to get the trajectory flatter for the faster paced coyote hunting though.

The 46gr loads are grouping about 1" at 100yds. They were hitting 2" higher than the 41gr loads. This probably flattened trajectory quite a bit at 400yds. I used to have a version of Shoot! to chart the trajectory, I wonder if it's still avail?

Thanks. Looks like Shoot! is up to ver 4.0. Their free trial lasts 14 days. I know Remington licenses it too, and offers it for free with only Remington ammo in the database. I like to print the trajectory chart in 50yd increments up to 500yds and tape it to the side of my gunstock for reference. Sure makes it easy to keep up with more than one gun. I'm very pleased with the 46gn ammo, I hope it doesn't burn the rifling too bad, but I'm thinking of getting a bull barrel for it and get it chambered for shorter bullets like the 55gn-85gn range. If I were to get it chambered for the 55gn could I seat the 85gn bullets deeper?

Yes you could. You would just have to watch out for excessive powder compression with the heavier bullets.

The ultimate would be to have a bullet you want to use at a certain seating depth and have your barrel chmbered to that round. I do not even know if gunsmiths could get this precise, but maybe there is a smith out there that could do it?

And I do the same thing, put the trajectory chart on the stock with clear box tape over it.

They change from time to time though as I find better combos.

And get rid of those moly pills! Lol

I just shot a 5-shot group at 500yds with this, and with a 200yd zero the drop is 24" and the group was 5" across and 2" high. I'm pretty amazed. -Tom
