ever use 444 cases as 410 shells?
I have some old 444 bullets laying around and was wondering if anyone has ever used them as 410 shells. I have been thinking about making some. Anyone have any loading recipes that would work with them or can you just use book data? If you did use them, how did they work? Thanks

Just for clarification, you want to use 444 bullets or brass in a .410-bore shotgun? You'd be surprised, with the advent of the new combo guns, how many folks are pondering shooting 44/45 Cal bullets in .410s.

Not exactly, but......
I have used 444 Marlin cases cut to cylinder length to make 45 Colt shotshells.

a friend has
a gunsith neighbor or mine has used them, but likes .303 brass better. In his derringer he had to remove some metal form the .444 brass to make the gun close. He has the tools to do it. And FYI,a .410 derringer makes a hell of a BOOM !!!

thanks for the info, I made some up and did have to remove some brass from the rim to get them to close, nothing a flat file couldnt solve. I have shot a couple so far and they seem to work good. I have not done any pattern tests yet.

I've been wanting to hand load the .410 for quite a while, but don't want to buy a shot shell press. I'm looking at buying some of the 9.3 X 74R brass because it will make full length 3" brass and all you have to do is fire form it once, trim it, then reload it over and over without having to re-size. Just a shell holder, universal decapping die and a hot glue gun is all you need. The 3" brass case should hold a max payload easily. My .410 barrel for my Handi rifle hasn't seen much use over the years. Time to change that.
