Taurus has introduced a line of super-light revolvers that some feel will revolutionize revolvers, as Glocks revolutionized autopistols.

I am most interested in what can be done with the .41 Mag (2.5" barrel) and .45 LC (2" barrel), before I order one of these pistols. My goal is to find both a lightweight defensive load and a heavier, deeply-penetrating load that will have a minimum of 501 ft-lbs of energy at 100 yards. I do not necessarily expect to be able to milk this from the .45!

I realize that most ammunition manufacturers actually load their ammo to less "energetic" levels than the cartridges are safely capable of. Current "standard" offerings in .41 are a 210 HP between 1300 and 1350 fps, as well as a mid-power 170-grain between 1200 and 1290 fps. Surely this can be improved upon!

In the .45 LC, I assume that this gun will be considerably stronger than old SAA's (being on the same frame as the .41 Mag), but not as strong as the Ruger/Contender pistols. I would really like to see a 165-grain JHP @ 1250 fps and a 200-grain XTP going as fast as is prudent. Again, this is from a short barrel. The porting is supposed to be remarkably efficient (see Shooting Times).

Thanks in advance,

John

Cor-bon tells me that they do not feel that the demand is enough to make a new .41 Mag offering, but that the 165-grain JHP .45 is a definite possibility.

Incidentally, the Shooting Times reported Cor-bon with the highest velocity load tested. Their 210-grain .41 avg velocity was 1223 fps...
