Teflon Coat It

Teflon baked on finish would be my choice. It looks good and will never rust again. I have done some lever guns for several guys in a satin black finish and it looks great.
Good Luck

You can have it hard chromed and THAT finish will be tougher then most others.

lol.

I would have it bead blasted and then hard chromed. It would have a nice frosted look to it, and not too reflective either. Sweet!!!

Actualy, some years back I saw a Marlin .30/30 with a grey parkerised finish that looked prety cool. Would'nt mind doing my .30/30 in that finish.

Nah, I'd still recomend hard chrome, it wears relly well.

Hard Chrome will give you best durabilty of any common finish on the market. However, it is kind of bright if it's a hunting rifle. A lot of people will use a camo sleeve for bright guns when hunting or you can have it re-finished with one of the resin based finishes. They come in a variety of colors and are usually cost effective. Some are durable or rustproof or both. Surface blemishes on the metal are removed as part of the process. (But not rust pitting) If I had to pick a good shop for a resin based finish, I would suggest uhmm..well...hmmm..lets see...Ahaa!
Mac's Shootin' Irons in Tucson. Guranteed rust proof in writing. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

Pimp gun

That's what you'll have if you have the thing chromed. You might as well hang fuzzy dice off the barrel and get curb feelers.

Do electroless nickel over a light bead blast. Much nicer and not so bright either.
