firearm compliance laws

well im new to this forum. but i have have gotten lots and lots of useful info on here. so i figured i would start posting. im about to get an SKS and im gonna put a tapco stock on it. ive read tons of this about legal issues regarding the sks with a pistol grip and adjustable stocks. what needs to be done to make the weapon compliant? is it really worth it to spend the money? does it really make a differance or shoud i just kinda do what i want?

compliant where? Every state is different. Most don't care.

Pistol grips/adj stocks...sounds like the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) (or Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act).

On March 2, 2004, with the 'sunset' of the ban on the horizon, assault weapon ban supporter Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) attached a ten-year extension to the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban to the Senate's Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. With the Feinstein amendment, the bill was voted down 8-90.

Unless you have something special down there.

ive honestly got no idea. i kinda figured since it was texas that people would not really care. i just dont see why it would be illegal to put a pistol grip and adj stock on it. i guess im just confused about the whole thing

this is a free bump, you might want to try the same questions in the Rifle section.

From a state law perspective I don't think you have a problem in Texas... it's more of an ATF thing and imported rifles like the SKS and AK.

That is correct- AFAIK there is nothing in TX law to restrict one from owning a modified SKS, presuming you don't do anything to make the gun subject to the NFA.

If a gun is NFA, Sec. 46.05(c) of the TX Penal Code requires you to properly register it with the Feds.
