Kimber 10mm or Glock 20? - Page 2

I haven’t shot 10mm from a 1911, but I do own a smith 1006 and a few glock 10mm’s. Recoil pulse is less pronounced with the plastic gun. It gives and flexes unlike an all steel gun.

Had a G20 and a G29, both are gone in favor of the G20SF.

I am a 10mm fan and I have several of them. The 10mm has softer recoil in the Glocks than the 1911s...frame flex is a thing and benefits the Glocks. I enjoy shooting all of my 10mms, but rarely do I put over 50 through the Razorback, but will hit 200 in a range session with the others.

The 10mm Kimber is a good 1911, but in 10mm, long term, I would say that the G20 will be more reliable, but also a little less accurate.

I recently purchased a Timberwolf frame for my 20SF--it definitely has helped me tighten my groups a bit.

I had a Glock 20, gen 1, and it was ok. It shot factory ammo fine, but was temperamental with reloads. The grip was wide, but not too uncomfortable. I now have a Ruger 1911 in 10mm and a Colt Delta. I prefer those to the Glock. My Glock was chosen by my daughter as a wedding present several years ago, but is stored in my safe while they are out of the country. I frequently take it out of the safe and each time, I don't regret her relieving me of it.

I have a Target II and absolutely love it as I can definitely shoot better with it. It does have a little more felt recoil than my Glock 20 or even the 29. I load my own to 10mm’s “full potential” so the recoil and muzzle blast are markedly more noticeable then even hot 45acp loads with all three. My 5” 610 S&W oddly enough seems to have less felt recoil even though it’s a revolver. Weight maybe? Long story short: if I could only keep one it would be the Kimber

For range and target work, and maybe gun games as well (IDPA), any accurate 10mm 1911 that runs reliably will be fine.

For practical use and EDC, and especially for outdoor carry on the trails, and in the woods or boonies, it's a Gen4 Glock 20.

The Kimber has a better trigger, better sights, and is very accurate. The Glock costs less. At 15 yards and less probably not much performance difference but as the distance increases beyond that the Kimber will have the edge.

This thread was started in July of 2018 so I don't know if the OP is still looking or made their purchase but when I wanted something slim like the 1911 but reliable like the Glock I went with the S&W 10XX series. I luckily found a 1076 then a 1006. They have been super reliable and the size is a lot thinner than the Glock. While I don't shoot them very often these days, they are still very reliable and fun to shoot. I haven't handled the new Springfield guns yet and am curious how they feel in the hand but right now I have my eye on the Ruger 1911 in 10mm.

I see all these Bias post and have to ask, how can one gun be a perfect fit for all? The OP would do well to try them both out and be his own judge. I have shot both the Kimber and the Glock and Prefer the Kimber grip. Others may prefer the Glock.
However my personal choice would be the Ruger 1911. Or even a Ruger SR9C in 40.cal. In fact, I would prefer the 40.cal if that was the way I was going to go.

I still haven't gotten a 10mm again, yet. I have a bunch of 10mm ammo already.

It's put off for now. I have a LCR in .357 and a Kahr K40 and those are my woods carry guns for the time being

I've already owned a few glock 20's and a glock 29 in the past.

I was thinking a glock 20 with a Hill People chest kit pack is what I might go for.
But now that Ruger has come out with the 3" LCRX, I'm tempted to go for that.
I already have the 3" in .38 +P and that is one of my favorite guns.

Neither - Get the Glock 40. The 10mm rd absolutely loves a 6" barrel. When I got my custom German 6" slide in 2004 for my G21 and then developed the 45-10MM conversion barrel for it I had no idea that the extra 1.6" of barrel length and 4.75oz muzzle weight would make for such a fine shooter and woods gun.

How about near 1,600fps with a 165grn bullet using Power Pistol powder with a softer shooting 10mm by a lot than a 1911 framed pistol? The combination of the wider backstrap, the flexing frame, and the extra muzzle weight make for an excellent woods gun. The 28% longer sight radius makes it a great longer range shooter as well. I shoot steel at 200yds with mine.

I purchased the Kimber 10mm Target II LS a few months ago. Hands down the most accurate groups I shoot out of all my handguns. The 6" bbl.'s long sight radius really helps with target precision. The Kimber 10mm has some weight but that equates to a lighter recoiling smooth shooter. Here's some feedback from my first range trip :
