Ambidextrous pistols

Is their a list or thread somewhere of pistols that are friendly for lefties? I was looking to buy a Sig but don't think any are ambidextrous. Maybe a few lefties can give me some quality choices. Thanks!

Check out the H&K P30.

It has ambi slide releases, ambi mag release, and its safety is at the back of the slide, easily manipulated with right or left hand. Plus it has a wild combination of grip panels that can be changed along with backstraps for all sized hands but the absolute tiniest.

Smith & Wesson's M&P line of pistols is ambidextrous, except for the M&P Shield. The Shield might have an ambidextrous magazine release, but I'm not sure.

Ambidextrous pistols

I'm not sure about the other manufacturers but the FN pistols have full ambidextrous controls.

Sig X models have ambi safeties. Most Sigs can have the mag release button reversed.

Then of course you can go whole hog with a complete left handed 1911
http://cabotgun.com/better-than-cust...ols/south-paw/

or a left handed ar-15 type rifle
http://www.stagarms.com/left-handed-upper-halves/

I have no personal knowledge of these companies I just know they're out there. (maybe waaaay out there).

As a fellow lefty, I suggest you not limit yourself. Just as you and I successfully navigate a predominantly right-handed world on a daily basis, I say - ADAPT to your situation. DON'T let it he a handicap.

When I first got into guns, one of my first purchases was a police-buyback Beretta 92FS - decidedly NOT a lefty-friendly semiauto. I bought it mainly because it was dirt cheap, but also to see what I could learn to do with it. To make a long story short, I cycled 10,000+ rounds through that gun over the next decade, all the while working on and refining my ability to run it entirely left-handed. None of this "load it like a rightly then swap hands and fire" business, either.

Learning these skills has allowed me to have confidence in handling pretty much any handgun you can put in front of me. 1911s, Glocks, you name it. It has expanded my world of gun ownership and I'm glad for it as I dearly love the variety of guns in my collection.

Feel free to PM me with any questions about specifics of handling.

Oh, and when it comes to rifles, don't ask about running rightly bolt-actions. They are just plain evil.

Wow DaleA. Those Cabot 1911s are NICE! But until the price comes down out of the stratosphere, I'll happily run my "plain" righty 1911s - and those of my buddies on the firing line - the way I've learned.

+1.

Most right handed guns are very easy to adapt to. My only concession was that I wanted an ambi safety on my 1911, otherwise you can pretty much work and release with your index finger of your left hand.

I do own a Walther PPK and it does have an ambi paddle style mag release. The mag release wasn't why I bought the gun but after you get used to it, it's pretty cool.

Lefty here also.

Totally ambidextrous (safety, slide release, mag release): FNH FNX 9, 40, 45 and Bersa Thunder 9/40/45 Ultra Compact Pro. I have the Bersa 9 and the FNX 40....both exceptional guns.

There are others that have reversible mag releases and/or a safety on the right side or some combination therein. Ruger SR (I have the sr22), Walther makes some subset.

I also have a Sig Sauer P938 that has an ambi safety and I think the mag release reverses, but have not tried it as yet.

Good luck....and then you will have the challenge of left handed holsters

Walther P5 9x19mm ....

To my knowledge, the out of production P5 semi-auto ejects spent cases to the left, .
The P5 9mm is the only pistol Im aware of that does it.
The MA-1, CA-1, SA-1 are the polymer frame pistols I was thinking of.

It's not ambidextrous if only some of the controls are on both sides or can be moved to either side.

Fully ambidextrous models that I know of are the the FNH's FNX & FNX, HK's P2000 & P-30, Ruger SR's, Walther PPQ M1.

There are several other models that have slide release levers/buttons on both sides and reversible mag release buttons. That would include the Sig P250.

DID ANYONE mention the CZ85 COMBAT with it's totally " ambisextrous " controls. It is a DOOZY in that while shooting left handed I run the controls with my right hand; Amazingly good. Even vise versa. I am a southpaw who can shoot with either hand equally well to the point I shoot with either hand and never think about it before hand. BUT, my right hand tires much more quickly than my left hand.
An old pal of mine could not, NOT, pronounce the word ABIDEXTROUS. It came out as I wrote it above.....
And so it goes...

Walther PPQ..That's why I gave it to my good friend who's a left as a gift for his first gun. I didn't like that darn thing anyways.

Anyways, that's an all ambidextrous gun.

I love my navy ppq and I'm a lefty. Awesome trigger in my opinion. Awesome accuracy for a combat gun.

I know its already been mentioned but Beretta PX4 Storm compact. I love mine. Great gun for the price, for me anyway, I am the most accurate with it out of all my other pistols. It just seems to be a perfect fit. I'm not left handed but it has all the controls on both sides.

The CZ-85B and 85 Combat aren't really FULLY ambidextrous -- the mag release isn't reversible. For most left-handers, however, that (the lack of reversible mag release) isn't a show stopper. These models do have ambi-slide releases and safeties.

The newer CZs (poly-framed P-07, P-09) and many of the alloy-framed compact models have ambidextrous features, including reversible mag releases. The SAO and stainless models, have ambi-safeties. (The stainless models also have reversible mag releases.)

The P99 is very much IN PRODUCTION, and as mentioned earlier, is available in an ambidextrous configuration.
