Nobody said anything about trespassing. Common sense tells you need permission in any state of the country, though it seems that nowadays only about half of the hunters out there have that common sense. BUT, most people (at least around here) that dont let you on hate hunting and love bambi's so they wont have a license. If they deny permission they are wasting and illegally in possession of a game carcass.
If he does have a tag and denies you so that he can claim the deer for himself, (around here) its illegal to claim an animal that you didnt shoot and has a hefty fine. As far as the 243 for deer, I love it with Hornady SST's. All distances have performed excellent. |

The only concern i had was the beautiful animal did not end up coyote feed. That's why I said no conscience. Me I would have been happy to let someone trespass to get it but it's his land and he can have it. Today there is little respect for hunting sadly

This was a 50 yrd. shot. Next time shoot the animal in the upper neck or head. I doubt if it will run then.

Most foolproof bullets I found for the 243 Win: Speer Grand Slam and Nosler Solid Base soft point--both 100 grain. These bullets expand AND penetrate.

I think sometime we hand loaders do ourselves a disservice by loading marginal bullets too hot. I load for my wife and her .243. 100 grain Hdy Interlock over 34.0 grains of IMR 4895, very mild load but will drive that bullet through shoulders, spine, whatevwr without disintegrating. Standard response it a jump/kick and run of 20 to 50 yards and pile up. Bullets sometimes do funny things, angles can deceive us, sometimes against all expectations the deer don't bleed like they should. As for the land owner, in MO you cannot compel a land owner to let you cross their property to retrieve a deer. The best a Cons. Agent can do is try to talk them.it letting the Agent retrieve it for the hunter. The adjoining landowner would have to have a valid tag in order to keep the deer himself, but that isn't difficult.
