Custom AK 47
This isn't the usual thing you will see out of my shop but I do slick up AK's from time to time.
This one has been completely gone through all the sharp edges removed inside and out the action and rails have all been tuned and are super smooth. Got a trigger job on an Arsenal trigger group ( 4 lbs pull weight). YHM flash hider, Modified a UTG quad rail, modified the rear sight by squaring it off and opening up the rear notch. , Magpul grip, Rifle Dynamics AK to AR stock adapter, Strike industries 7 position buffer tube and a Bravo Company Gunfighter stock. Finished in my custom Mixed Reaper Gray and Flat Black. /rs=w:740[/IMG] |

Definitely a sharp-looking piece, even if it doesn't have any sharp edges.

Great looking rifle! I am something of an AK junkie.
How stable is that quad-rail for mounting a red dot? I have an Ultimak on one of mine and have been happy with it, but am always open to new ideas.

The quad rail is a tight fit on this gun it doesn't have any play in it at all. This is a UTG model I cut the top rail down on it and blended the top and bottom to make everything flush.
Thanks for the compliments. |

That's nice! I like that a lot! The gray looks good.
I can't quite read the rollmark on the receiver. What model AK did this start out as?

Someone once said that standard AKM sights are basically just like pistol sights. For quick acquisition up close or with large targets, they do well. I think that's true. The front sight is G2G, and opening up the rear notch, like on a 1911 or Glock, just makes sense with that in mind.

I shot a couple hundred rounds through it and I had rail covers on the forend at that time and it was warm but not hot. Which it is going to end up with a forward grip on it in the future.
This is an ISD Bulgarian LTD build SSR85C2 imported by Armory USA around 2005 they were built on 1.6mm receivers. I had heard years ago that they bought New AK's from the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense to build these guns. |

Yeah for the most part they were pretty solid guns. They did some bonehead things like tack welding a muzzle brake on it but I have seen much worse. It just needed a little refinement.

It was a mix with theses guns is what i read some were threaded to accept AR flash hiders and others had no threads and the tack welded brake. The world of AK's you never know what you'r going to get.

Regarding your color scheme, here's a 308 Saiga I just finished converting about a month ago. Great minds think alike.

Sort of negates the original intent of the design but it looks nice.

Yeah I have always liked the contrast between gray and black on a gun. I could never find a gray that was exactly what I wanted so I started experimenting and mixing my own colors.

Thanks silvermane!
It took me a while to get the bugs worked out on that one. Mostly mag issues until Csspecs helped me resolve that and now their new mags are working flawlessly. 308 in a handy 16" barreled AK is very fun!

Both are very appealing AK varieties. And could probably achieve 2" groups at 100 yards with the right sights. Maybe smaller groups.
If so, don't tell any people whose pride gets easily hurt. DMK: yours reminds me of an HK. |

I'm somewhat surprised you had mag problems with your 308 Saiga there DMK, supposely 308 Galil mags are compatible with the 308 Saigas with some modifications, kind of like M-14/M1A mags are compatible with Zastava M-77 AK/RPK with some modifications.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm really happy with it now that I finally have it reliable and looking presentable.
Quote:
The long story of my problem was: I was using Surefire mags and unknown to me at the time, they have an overly thick locking lug. Since they were the only 308 AK mags I had, I filed down the mag catch to make them fit when I first converted the gun. I wasn't having luck with them (though everyone I've talked with says they are good reliable mags), so I tried some 1st gen metal Csspecs mags. It turned out that my filed down mag catch was causing the Csspecs mags to fit too loosely resulting in the bolt periodic overrunning the next round in the mag. I replaced the mag catch with a spare I had, fitted it properly to the Csspecs mags and now it runs 100%. The one shown in the picture is actually a current gen Csspecs mag.
