S&W K L frame factory double stamp and lug barrel help.

Hello. Long time listener, first time caller. I picked this S&W .357 up in a recent trade. Upon getting home and checking the model number in the yoke, I can clearly see its originally stamped 686-1 but also I can clearly see it has a 1 stamped over the second 6 making it a 681-1. I also can not locate either model with a ramp lug barrel and non-adjustable sights. The barrel has standard rifling as opposed to octagonal (?) rifling like my model 60-15 which is a ramp lug barrel as well. The barrel itself is not maker marked and has a different profile than any factory ramp lug barrel I've seen. The frame has been sandblasted, cylinder ceracoated and it's got a very nice trigger job. Any info about the double stamp and barrel would be helpful. Also, the serial prefix is AUV1*** and It does have the "m" stamp in the yoke indicating it's been factory repaired.

681 has fixed gutter sights. What is a "ramp" lug barrel? I don't know of any S&W with "octagonal" rifling. Do you mean polygonal, ala Glock? Not a stock S&W barrel if that's what it is.

Here's a stock 681-1.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

We really need pictures, try to find a way. Maybe send them to burrhead to post. (Is that OK, burrhead?)

I don't have an account with any of the photo sharing providers. All I can do is link to pics on the web.

If you have your pictures in a file on your computer you can post them without an image service. Its very easy to do. Read this tutorial and just follow directions.
