Hmmm, should I go take some pics of my new Lee mold for my Mosins? Since I just bought a brand new DSLR, I just might do that. I still need to size and lube them, then load. Phooey, I'm gonna apply for retirement, then I'll have the time!

Look'n good, GP---can't wait to hear the range report! I have everything to do it, but haven't yet just because of time (or a serious lack there-of). That's about a 170-180 grain lyman mold? I have the Lee 312-160-2R that I'm dropping for my AK and pairing with my Mosin also--GC tumble lube that finishes at 173gr. on the dot with WW and Hornaday GC's sized at .311---just haven't loaded any for the mosin yet. Have to go fire off a couple boxes first, then I'll catch up to ya . I still have about 1200 steel-core fmj's I've been loading for it and haven't freed up any brass for a change-over yet.

It likes the GCed bullet (bottom target 3shots @ 1210fps) not so much the bare ones (top target 3 shots @ 1255 fps )

The charge was only 8grs. of reddot, think I`ll bumpit to 9 under GCed bullet !

My alloy drops the 314299 at 207 grs. & 314 no extra.

If they start skiddin I`m gonna add a little tin or 50/50 WW & isotope .

A little more 'oomph' shouldn't hurt a thing--in fact you ought to be able to change powder to a little slower burn and drive those up around 1600+ fps without any problem. What alloy are you using right now?

When I started shootin they all kiked up dust in the same manner, I even pulled the bolt & looked to be sure it left the bore ????

But yes a slower powder is needed on those 207 gr bullets , Thinkin of IMR 4227 say 14-15 grs. or 2400 at the same gr. ???

Rite now I`m castin with alloy from isotope containers which run 95/2.5/2.5 & works good at 700f. Also thinkin of going 50/50 iso/WW

A couple of suggestions: Try Trail Boss. Follow the directions to load to 70% of the space under the bullet to start, then work up, but I expect you'll fill the case. Just don't compress it any. When the little donuts break they burn too fast and it raises pressure.

Second Either be under 1050 fps or over 1350. At 12-something, you are right in the heart of the transonic velocity range. The bullet has its hardest time straightening out an flying right in that range, despite what .22 rimfires can do.

Let's see if you can drill a cloverleaf? Sure looks promising.

That ain't no joke! LOL They can be lightened, I just haven't had the time to go through mine yet.
Considering how tight the two obvious holes are for the GC bullets, I'm gonna speculate the third one went through there too--but it's your story to claim how you see fit .

I'll look through my books when I get home for some other recipes for ya. I seem to remember one with H335 that I was thinking looked promising, but I'll have to see what I've got--mine are consistent with a lighter bullet.

Unclenick is dead on about the velocities, too. They're running tight from the looks of things, but they're GC'd--let 'em have a more little leg and see what they do with a little more running room! So long as you have the BHN to take the pressures without fouling, I'd jump it over the 1400fps mark at the very least, and go from there.

I tuffened em up a bit with iso/WW , + they dropped a fat 314 (they rub the sizer now)

Gonna go with the 2400 load ,my Redhawk does`nt like it , the GPs won`t burn it all up so I`m gonna run a bit thru

The Mosin 819 likes 2400 this is 17gr. for 1452 fps. 314299 GCed , lubed with Carnauba Red .

The dot is a 3" Thinkin of shootin at a 8" paper plate ,I think it`ll fit in the front globe.

You folks tried Trailboss.

It works great in cast rifle loads. The advantage is, in light loads it fills the case giving better ignition.

I started using it in all my Cast Rifle Bullets. Its recommended that you fill the case to where the bottom of the bullet sets, then use 70% of that load as a starting point, tweequing it a bit up or down untill you get the accuracy that suites you.

Its great for heavy rifles too, I use it in my 416 Rigby & 375 H&H. I also developed a load of trailboss for my 45-70 and 44-90 Sharps that equals my Black Powder load. Saves a lot of scrubbing on BP guns.

Timeny now makes a trigger w/safety for the mosin. Gaff&Sons has them.
