Dewey Coated Rod - 22C
I recently purchased a Dewey nylon coated cleaning rod, the 22C size, which is advertised as being suitable for .22-.26 caliber bores. However, I am unable to get it to fit into any of my .22LR or .223 barrels, no matter how small a patch I use or how hard I try and push. It’s simply too tight to fit. Anybody else have this problem?

Will it fit without a tip or jag in the .223.It doesn’t surprise me that it doesn’t fit a a 22 rimfire a lot of rods, jags, and brushes to centerfire don’t work very well in rimfire

For what its worth I got a .17 rod for my 22.
Makes sure I am not forcing things as the 22s are a bit more delicate (kind of what I have heard and with the rimfire aspect not something I want to mess with)

It looks like they also sell a 0.20 rod. I wonder if that is a better choice.

Yes. 22 rimfire is a couple thousandths smaller than 22 centerfire (0.222" groove and 0.217" bore vs. 0.224" groove and 0.219" bore). Also, as mentioned, often softer steels are used, as jacketed bullet start pressures are not involved, so you don't want to force anything.

OP, were you using a jag and wet patch on your .223 barrel?

For my CZ 452 in 22 lr I had to go with a 20 caliber Dewey one piece coated rod.

That's strange. This month I have cleaned about a dozen 22 rifles with my Dewey 22 caliber rod. It's tight with a 22 caliber jag on it, but it fits as long as I don't try with 2 patches on it. Try it with a loop on it and see if your rpoblem goes away.
I have a 17-caliber rod, but I don't use it much. I'm afraid I will break that little thing. I't not much bigger than a spaghetti noodle.

Scorch
The rod by itself wouldn't go through the barrel , it's a CZ the bore is smaller not a problem with the rod , I like the Parker Hale style jag for cleaning , they don't make them smaller then 22. Using the right size patch is important , I start with a larger patch an cut it back until I get the perfect size , makes like easier . |

Cleaning rods: The mistake is made when the new designer refused to start over, when an attempt to improve the design the designer starts with another cleaning rod.
