These look to be 2 new types of Hawken with 1 in 20" twists and 32 inch barrels.

They might be alright if they'd get rid of the patch box and checkering and go to a slower twist. JMHO.

They do look a little over done. Now if they would lose the nose cap, fancy patch box and use iron furniture it would be closer to the real thing.

I guess that these are supposed to be a less expensive alternative to the Pedersoli Tryon rifles. The Match model could be more for entry or club level competition and can still be used for hunting too.
The Ardesa/Traditions Pennsyvania rifle as well as the Pedersoli Kentucky and some of their other models are also outfitted with those flashy polished brass patchboxes.
Lyman is one of the only other major manufacturers of sidelocks and they offer fast twist factory barrels, so someone needs to compete with them. It's an offering somewhere "in-between" a Lyman and a Pedersoli, and the European's seem to like to shoot .451 conicals instead of the .45 round balls which seem to dominate their rifle calibers.
We have more .50's and they seem to have mostly .45's being offered to them.
The longer heavy bullets it's capable of shooting would probably do a number on any game animal, especially the really large ones.

Yeah but they're closer to being period correct for those guns. Most Hawkens didn't have patch boxes and the ones that did didn't have them like that.

I prefer plain wood and never even use a patchbox.

So will a .58 minie ball out of any of the various Springfields or Enfields. If anybody wants to buy an Ardesa more power to them. It just doesn't excite me. I'd rather put my money into something more historically accurate. For the money a Lyman Great Plains can't be beat. It's not an exact copy of a Hawken but it's about the closest you'll find for a production gun.
