PTR91
Co-worker ordered himself a PTR91 w/ (20) 20rnd magazines yesterday for $1369.00 from One Source Tactical.
Dealer said it had a new barrel. I've always been a fan of the HK 91/G3 platform. Does this incarnation live up?

Early serial numbers had issues with soft trunnions, I believe PTR's website has the effected S/N's listed. They don't seem to have had any issues since. I have the GI edition, and am quite pleased with it.

I had one but sold it a few years ago. Wish I would have kept it. It was a good rifle although about a 2 MOA shooter with a good scope and a worked up load. Throws brass to the next county. I had a HK93 in the 80's and i can't remember it being any better.

The PTR-91 is on my short list of rifles to get. Like has been said some early models seemed to have issues but the latest rifles seem to be GTG. Before the insanity a PTR-91 ran about $1000. CDNN sometimes has them in stock but the price you have seems to be about what they go for these days.

PTR just announced that they are leaving Connecticut due to the stupid laws they have passed. i would not hesitate giving them any of my money. HK surplus 20 rnd mags used to be like 1.50$ each last time i looked. as soon as the prices come back down i think one will make a new home in my gun safe

I just sold my PTR carbine. They are very well made and this one was more accurate than the Hk91 I owned about ten years ago.
Some of them have issues shooting surplus ammo due to an issue with the flutes in the chamber. I never experienced this problem and shot everything under the sun from UMC to late 70s Spanish surplus. Take note, the carbine version bites like a mule and kicks like a crocodile. Smaller framed people probably won't enjoy this gun.

PTR91
Mine threw brass 32 ft to about the 1:30 direction. Put a port buffer on it and much better. It is pretty accurate for standard semiauto. The bolt is a heavy duty chunk of steel, no mamby pamby momma's boy pencil bolt!

This is all encouraging news. Thanks.
I'm looking forward to shooting this rifle when it arrives. Now I'm thinking I should've ordered one for myself too.

Mine does not like surplus ammunition. So, it is "one of those."
The rifle does exceptionally with handloads. If you think you might enjoy the rifle, by all means buy one. A couple of modifications you will want to do IMO. A paddle mag release completely changes the character of the rifle. A port buffer if you reload your brass will be a must have item. A trigger job will also be welcome. I really like mine. |

I bought one abound 2008 or so. Accuracy was okay (2-3 MOA in my hands) but reliability was top-notch. It ate and shot *everything*. I traded it away mainly because it was too fun to shoot and with .308 prices as they are I was going poor shooting it.
If you plan to scope it I recommend getting a Cherokee cheekpiece as the scope will have to sit high to clear the rear sight. I found the Cherokee piece to be more comfortable and cheaper than something like the Magpul PRS stock (also faster to adjust between scope and irons). Oh yeah, mine was an 18"er with an untapered barrel. It was very comfy to shoot. |

If PTR moves to Texas I'm going to buy another one of their rifles in appreciation of their business decision. You've got to love the surplus parts as well.

Oh man, they are moving to Texas? That'll give the Texans something really worth boasting about.
