RED DOT
My neighbor quit reloading shot shells because of age and physical problems. Gave me about 3 lbs of Reddot powder. I reload 40S&W, 38 special and 357 magnum, generally using Berry Bullets (plated) and shoot quite a bit. Anyone ever use this powder for this and if so, where did you find your load data. My manuals don't really show much. Thanks.

Red Dot
Modern Reloading Second Edition by Richard Lee has info on Red Dot for the calibers you have.
I have only used Red Dot in 9mm, so have no experience with what you are doing. |

Red Dot will work in any cartridge; especially for light target loads. It will work really well in .38 Special, and not quite so good but usable in the others.

Red Dot and "Promo" powder
I used to use a lot of Red Dot.
If you can't find more data check out an older Lyman manual (#45 & #46). Those and a Speer from the same time period were the only manuals I had then. These older manuals will not help you out with the .40 since they were printed before the .40 came out. The Lee manual also might have data. Alliant has a powder called "Promo" which is basically a BULK ONLY economy version of Red Dot. You can interchange data WITH SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT check the Alliant website on how to adjust. T. |

I loaded up a bunch of 158 grain LSWC bullets and Red dot powder in .38 Special. Very accurate mild load in my 6" Security six. Should be enough to load up close to 7000 .38 Specials!
Doesn't meter well being so flaky, but I loaded them up using my RCBS Chargemaster combo and my Lee turret press for some fun loads. |
