Browning BPS 12 GA
I just purchased a Browning 12ga model 30. It has a a magazine lock feature. Would anyone happen to know what years these guns were produced ? Thanks for any help.

Not sure if you are asking about the Browning BPS....or the Model 30??...Savage, maybe?
Production of the Browning BPS began in 1977 and is still being produced. This is a pump shotgun. A "magazine lock" says auto shotgun to me. More info on the BPS: http://www.browning.com/customerserv...tail.asp?id=25 Also found this: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Guns-Fire...d-Model-30.htm And this: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=183575 As the last two links relate, there was a Savage Model 30 auto shotgun, based on Browning patents. I remember having seen these. Remington also had a similar model, and there were others too as I recall. The corresponding Browning model was actually the original... the very famous Auto 5. More info on the Auto 5 here: http://www.browning.com/customerserv...tail.asp?id=13 I don't have a Blue Book handy. There would be information on the Browning Auto 5 and the Savage Model 30 in there. Yes I am referring to the R and The S markings on the selecter. It is a pump shotgun. I have heard it referred to as a magazine lock,. my terminology may not be correct. The gun itself is in perfect condition, just looking to find a little history on it. thanks

If its the same lockout as my Gold has, They still have the magazine lockout and its nice for quick load changes. I love mine when im duck hunting and the honkers start coming in and my partners are fumbling around ejecting the small shot to load the big stuff and mine is already loaded.

Where does the "Model 30" come from? Did Browning make a pump gun prior to the BPS designated the Model 30? Just curious.
