Great Grandfather's shotgun.
I'm trying to restore my Great Grandfather's Winchester 1897.
The action works fine, but it was stored in an old bus at his home for who knows how long, and the stock was eaten by something. So I need to buy replacement stocks. Also I have no idea how old it is so if anyone can tell me... It's a 16 gauge breakdown model, serial number D362591. |

From what I found, your shotgun was made in 1908. I couldn't find the manual for it.

High grade wood on a win '97 is like a bow tie on a pig.
This is wonderful gun and a classic design. You cannot improve on it by changing anything. Use plain straight grained wood on it, just as John Moses Browning designed it and Winchester made it. Jeff |

Thanks for all the replies guys, I went with a semi finished American Walnut stock from Gunstocks INC. I'm gonna give it to my dad for his birthday next month, and make it a family project to get it up and shooting.

Try ebay. They have various old gun stocks there a lot. Also Gunbroker and Auctionarms.com.
