Looking into getting an ar15 what’s the best one that I can get for under 1000

Price only? Palmetto State Armory has upper/lower combos that can be had for under $350. Good stuff from what I've been told - my only AR-15 is the Trash Panda, made up of cast offs and left overs.

I don't even own a $1000 AR. My first choice of already assemble "budget" AR would be DelTon followed by PSA. If you want to step up a bit, get an Adams Arms piston operated mid-length upper and whatever lower you like. The AA uppers use a "VooDoo" barrel that is pretty darned good.
At this point in my "AR fascination", I no longer buy complete uppers unless the sum of the parts exceeds the cost of the whole.

Check these out. I get a stripped lower. Add the components and a drop in trigger. Add a butt stock of my choice. Add upper and BUIS and scope.

My budget AR is a Ruger lower(came with a good 2 stage trigger) and a Rock River upper. Came in at about 600.00 including a Bushnell TRS25 red dot. The Ruger lower really surprised me. Love it.

Base model AR's can be had for under $500 all day long. It's when you start adding options that things can start to get pricey. That said, you can still find low-cost BUIS and red dots and keep it well below $1,000.

Some people who have already done all of the upgrades may be willing to sell to you at fairly low prices.

$1000 can buy you much more than a budget gun. As others have mentioned, PSA is a good solid starting point. But, I'd take a serious look at the new Sig M400 Tread

I've got one built entirely of ballistic advantage and aero precision components. Its not hard to exceed $1000 on a nice build project.

I've put 2 good AR's together, and I don't really see how you could spend $1,000; maybe $500.

Good barrel--good BCG--good trigger group--good rail and good muzzle device; in addition to the rest of the "conventional" parts will easily put you in the 1K range.

If you are looking for the best AR-15 under $1000, there is a Colt or BCM that will suit your needs.

I'm guessing this would be your first AR? Do you have a specific intended purpose? As far as a factory rifle in that range I like my CMMGs. I prefer free float handguards so I would suggest getting a keymod or M-lock so you can add rails whenever and wherever you want.

I can't say whether or not it'll be the best, but I sourced a stripped lower locally for $50 and intend to order a build kit from PSA. Between the kit, the stripped lower, and mags, I'm expecting to come in under $400, maybe closer to $350 depending on the build kit I choose.

I'm putting together a "behind the seat" pickup gun. The barrel is new($40 on sale), the upper is new blem ($50), the lower is an 80% blem($33),the springs/pins kit is new ($20), stock/buffer tube/etc is new($20), and the rest of the parts are used/takeoff/left over($??). The serial number will be something like FU1AZH0 and if it gets stolen, I'm not out much.
When it's done, I'll report on the actual performance. I have little doubt it will suffice for the occasional coyote, ground hog. or crow that I might encounter.

I want something accurate but not super heavy that’s reliable. The only main upgrade is the hand guard I can put a rail on and attach a light and probably do a trigger job with a good barrel

Define your expectation of "accuracy". Most AR barrels are capable of decent accuracy with some type of ammo. I can't remember handling a single AR that didn't shoot under 2 MOA with off-the-shelf something unless there was damage to leade, chamber, or crown.
Upgrade handguard? Get a MagPul and add a short rail section for your light rather than add a dufus tri/quad railed "cheese grater" HG.
Do a trigger job? Install an ALG ACT($60), PSA EPT or ALG QMS ($40), or any of several similar options. This takes 5 minutes(10 if you have to remove the pistol grip and selector to install the trigger).

I would advise not building your AR. The tools tend to cost a bit of money and the resale value is not very high. As far 5.56/.223 AR complete rifles are concerned, I highly recommend the ruger ar-556 MPR. It is an excellent value. PSA and Aero Precision have awesome lowers at a great price. It also wouldnt hurt to look at spikes too. Good luck

I have over 500 in just the trigger and barrel on one build.

Built 2 AR's on PSA lowers, not the quality of the Aero, BCM, Colt, and Spikes lowers Ive used. Sloppy fitment between upper and a gap in the back that you can see the buffer through.

Trust me, it's not that hard. Probably build a pretty nice one for $2000 if you wanted. But a decent $400 budget rifle will generally do the trick.

OP: My vote for a budget rifle would be a M&P Sport II. They can be had for under $500 right now.

.....bout $1000 with some good shopping...they do call me a gun snob

I could easily get under $600, but you give something up....

Or buy a Colt 6920 or 6960
