Inherited a Remington 3200

My stepfather passed away and I wound up with his 3200 special trap. It seems like a nice shotgun, he had the barrels ported and double release triggers installed. That is a hang up for me, I have no use for release triggers.

how hard / expensive is it to get regular triggers put into one of these guns? I'd ask my local gunsmith but there are no real gunsmiths in my area, just AR15 builders...

It is not that hard but with a 3200 the smith need to know what he is doing .
What barrel length and choke The 3200 is a nice old shotgun and it takes a gunsmith that knows what he is looking at .

I am fro Texas and have not used Phillips Gunsmith in Emory, Texas. However Phillips has been recommended to me by several shotgun shooters. Also, from following a number of shotgun forums, a number Myers of accomplished shooters from all over the country say they have used him and highly recommended him to others. I suggest Googling him or using the search function of the he shotgun forums. If I recall correctly, he is well known by national competitors of skeet, trap, and sporting clays competitions.

Make what? There have been a number of sources of release triggers.
I once saw a Model 12 trigger group with the crossbolt safety acting as a selector; pull to release by the push of a button.

Jim Watson I have a Pull & Release in a model 12 . It works but very poor release and worse pull . The man that made them has been dead for years now . His name was Herb Orr did chokes and triggers I learned never ask Herb a question unless you really need the answer .

I never got desperate enough to go release, I did not want two operating systems between Trap and other guns.
Not encouraged by the guy whose Browning would occasionally "pull through" either.

Jim Watson I shot Registered trap for a long time started in 1967 . Over the years the release trigger was my only hope . I shot until 2009 and gave up at my age it was going to be all down hill . I shot a lot of targets over 200,000 and my best was behind me . Mr.Orr was a man I spent time with when I could a real old time gunsmith .

Hi Bladesmith:

You may be thinking of the Krieghoff K-32, which was very similar to the 3200, with an almost identical locking system. Made by Krieghoff in Ulm, in Germany after WWII.

Not to mention the original Remington Model 32 which was about the most expensive American shotgun (not counting embellishment) before WWII.

Remington quit making the 32 in 41, although a few were sold as late as 47 from inventory. A total of 5,053 were sold in ten years. They stopped for WW11. After the war they sold the rights to Krieghoff and they then made their model K 32. Yes is was expensive and that's why Remington stopped. In 73 Remington introduced the 3200. They discontinued any advertising in Dec, 1982. A total of 41,796 were sold in ten years and another 104 from the custom shop in 91,92, and 93. Patt Laib is the go to man for repairs.
