$5K AR: what would you buy in 5.56?

Including a high quality optic, if you wanted precision a precision semi (yea I know it's not as precise as a bolt), what would you buy?

A $1000 or less AR, a $1000 or less scope, and about $3000 of mags and ammo.

I would buy a Smith & Wesson M&P 15T. I would either put a nice red dot on it or if I put a scope on it I would probably use a US Optics TS 8x. $1100 for the rifle, probably $600 for the scope. And $2,000 for 5000 rounds of M855 ammunition. And have $1000 left over

Do they make $5000 non-NFA AR15s? Knights Armament AR15s are about $2700, the 308 ARs are about $5K. Don't know that I would spend that kind of cash for an AR, but some might.

I wouldn't.
Not chambered for 5.56.
And not for $5k.

I'd buy a really decent AR (still probably not in .223 Rem) for under $1,500, top it with $500 glass, and put the rest of the money toward ammo or something else.
If I really wanted to spend the $5k, I'd be looking at IR or 'night vision' optics.

At $5K I would buy a Noreen BN36 in 25-06(a 25-06 AR), plus mags, optics, ammo/reloading supplies and die set/s.

Start with a high quality blank like a Kreiger, Brux or Bartlein.
Send to Frank White or John Holliger to machine it for you.
Built on an Aero Precision M4E1 receiver set.
Add in a Jard, Triggertech or Geissle trigger.
Add other AR parts you like....

Find a nice 3-15ish ffp optic that you like the reticle in.

I would build it in 6.5 Creed of similar part list.

I have one, black 16" Barrel. With the built-in 1.5 Swarovski scope, awesome. The light-gathering that it has, amazing. When I sold them to Police in Canada, they were the full-auto model. AUG not AUG/SA but they required the mil/spec trigger group to be able to perform that function. A function I refused to order for SWAT or those kinds of groups.
There was no happy switch, first trigger pressure, semi-auto, press right through then you had full auto!
The first time a young Police comes under fire! Yanks that trigger 15 rounds down the street.
My idea was to have a patrol rifle in every unit. Not to be, there was not even a 12 gage Shotgun in them.
The Steyr AUG is still the Austrian MilSpec rifle, since 1977.

You will want to go with a Krieger, Bartlein, JP, or Stretch Precision barrel (Match grade, .223 Wylde Chamber and hand lapped) with 7075 billet receivers. JP bolt carrier group, fully adjustable stock from like Cole Components, XLR, etc. All the aluminum should be raw, trued and then Cerakoted. Should be under $3K built, and then put some high end glass on it.

I built a high end AR15 like this for a fundraiser last month. Had a Burris XTRII 1-8 in a Warne mount on it. I had it at $4300 retail, and it sold for $10K, totally amazed me.

For reliability, accuracy, and good quality in a precision target AR I'd go with a RRA National Match A4 AR HERE. You could get it with or without sights for about $1,250. Add to that an excellent Nightforce NX8™ 4-32X50 F1 Scope HERE for about $2,150 and you've got a killer combo totaling $3,400 with $1,600 left for mags, a sling and bag, and lots of precision ammo to train with.

Right now I've got a Geissele URGI on a BCM Gunfighter lower with an Eotech 512. I've got about $2k in it right now.

It would be real easy to push that up to $5K by upgrading the optic and adding an ATPIAL and Surefire SOCOM suppressor.
