Unknown weapon mount/tripod/bipod part - Can you help?

Hi all

This has been recovered recently from a WW2 era British army dump where everything that comes out of the ground is weapon related in some way. I've been searching for hours to try and track this part down. I think it maybe part of a weapon vehicle mount, or possibly tripod/bipod part but my searches have drawn a blank.

It is a heavy piece, 10 inches long. Top clamp has a hefty hand turner, and the bottom piece is obviously designed to allow lateral movement on whatever it fits in to.

Do you recognise it?

Doesn't look like either a Mk I or Mk II traversing stop to me, but I suspect you are on the right track.
