M1 Garand Increased Capacity?

Is there any way to increase the capacity of a 30-06 M1 without any permanent modifications?

I might be wrong but doesn't the garand require clips to work? if so then there is no way...it's stuck with 8 shot capacity.

Putting a detachable magazine on a Garand IS a very permanent modification. And not cheap, either.

Sort of, they called it the M14

With a quick bit of googling, it appears you can do it but it'd be a permanent thing.

Why would you want to do it?

my wording wasn't wise. I was referring to detachable mags as the type of mod I wouldn't want.

The Garand will hold as many rounds as you want as long as that number is not more than 8. You could try reloading faster or look at a M1A?

The fixed magazine of the Garand will only hold 8 rounds in an en bloc. Anything more and you are goin to have to do some sort of extensive modification to the rifle that won't be reversible. If you want a Garand with a higher capacity, the best option is an M1A.

The original design called for a .276 caliber cartridge with a capacity of 10 rounds. Just find original clips and a .276 barrel.

It fires a 30-06 round.

Eight is enough.

If you MUST have a Garand converted to take magazines, this guy has a pretty good reputation:

Note, however, that the rifle is also converted to 7.62x51 so it can take M14 mags. By the time you buy an M1 Garand and get it converted, you are better of just buying an M1A.

At the end of the day, you'd be better off with an M1A purchase in my opinion. The M14 was a process-improved M1 rifle and the M1A shares that solid engineering

I agree, if you want higher ammo capacity, get an M1A, garands are hard to come by as it is.

I have enough sins to atone for when I meet my Maker, I certainly don't what to have to explain screwing up a Garand.
