That serial number would be 1971. However, that would not be the correct SN for a Model 15. A model 15-3 would have a "K" in the serial number as either the first, second or third digit. Check for the SN stamped on the underside of the grip frame.

S&W made several different models chambered in 357 so I need the serial number to give you any info. You can X out the last two digits. See pic for SN location.

The revolver is missing, I don't have it. Doesn't the number 61575 say anything ? let's say it was N61575 would that say anything ? What are the "several different models chambered in 357" ?

61575 is likely an assembly number, means nothing to us. All models had assembly numbers on them to keep certain parts together during assembly. Model 27, 28, 581, 586, 681, 686, 19, 66, 13, 65, registered magnum, and I might be forgetting one or two, were all made in 357 magnum and available around 1980. All used different serial numbers, some different frames (N,L, and K), finishes, options, etc. We need to narrow it down to be of any help.
If it was N61575 then it would be an "N" frame made around 1970 but that is making a big assumption...

Ok, N61575 would be a frame made around 1970

When would a K61575 and L61575 frame be made ?

It would be an "N" frame (large frame) made in 1970 (model 27 or 28).
There are no K frame (medium frame) 357's made with K61575. There is no L prefix serial numbers.
And trying to figure out what gun you had with what is either an assembly number or incomplete serial number is futile at best.

Serial numbers ran from N1 in 1969 to N99999 in 1972.

Need more info. Is it a 5 or 6 shot? Is chambering 38 S&W or 38 S&W special?

S&W reused the same serial numbers back in the day so I need to figure out what model you have to date it.

Picked up a 242 today. I know these were only made in 1990, but I was curious if the book had a month listed: CDF2XXX

Thanks!
