First, it is a 32, correct? Check the rear underside of the barrel for a matching serial number. Jim |

Part of the serial # was worn off its 1406xx wish I would have noticed that before it’s real clear under the barrel it’s a 32 S&W long

Smith and Wesson .357
I have a S&W .357 that I would like to buy but I would like to know a little more about it. There is no model number but the serial number seems to be S 108524, or at least I think that's the serial number because it is stamped in like 4 places on the gun. Maybe someone could help me out...

Someone may have answered this question already, but I figured it was easier to ask again instead of searching though 27 pages of posts... so here goes...
I have a S&W revolver, 5 round, hammerless, with what I think is called "lemon squeeze" grip. The serial number is stamped on the butt and a few other places. The serial number (45xxx) has a star after, but no letters or dashes. Also, it has a break top (I think that's what it's called!). Can anyone tell me what this revolver is and its birthdate? Thanks a lot... Last edited by esimison; August 20, 2012 at 05:06 PM. Reason: additional information |

I think it's a .32 but I'm not really sure how to tell. My husband might could tell me This revolver belonged to my father and his mother was an antiques dealer so it wouldn't surprise me if it were really old.
Thanks |

If it's a 32 it would be a 32 Safety Hammerless 1st Model. SN's ran from 1 in 1888 to 91417 in 1909. If it's a 38 it would be a 38 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model. SN's ran from 42484 in 1890 to 116002 in 1898. Jim |

The no ejector rod housing most likely makes it a .44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model.
Serial numbers ran from 15376 in 1915 to 59000 in 1940. If the SN is 24XXX then it's pre 1926. My wife bought this for me and gave it to me as a wedding anniversary gift! I would like to know if in your opinion it would be safe to shoot with modern ammunition? The gun seems quite tight. Thanks a bunch. |

S&W 32-20 revolver
I'm new here and I hope I'm doing things right.
I have a S&W 32-20 revolver passed down from my Grandfather. I have had it on a shelf for the past 40 years. It is nickle plated with what looks to me to be pearl grips with a brass looking S&W inset in the grips. It has a 6" barrel, a patent date of 04 and on the bottom of the grip the numbers 7806 and if you turn the gun around it could read 9084. On the side of the barrel is the word Winchester. If someone can help me identify this weapon I would appreciate it. |
