Smith and Wesson serial number search - Page 221

Well folks,

After much anticipation, I finally collected my 1st ever S&W today. And what is more, it is my first revolver as well!

It's a 17-4. Seems in good condition to my (handgun) inexpert eye. At least it is in good shape and locks up tight with good chamber - barrel aligment and no apparent gremlins in the trigger.

Well, photo's or it didn't happen, so here we are:
(Think it has all original paperwork and the cleaning kit is still sealed in poly bag with matching serial number box...)

Well, hope I've done OK. I'm happy with it. Reckon I paid top $ but I didn't have a lot to haggle with...

Nice revolver to start out with - it dates from 1977. Don't feel bad about paying top dollar - I see very few bargains on nice older Model 17s these days. I know I've never regretted paying what I did for a gun, but there's a long list of guns I regret not buying because of price. As they say, with S&W revolvers you never pay too much, you just buy a bit too soon. (Those links don't work for me, BTW.)

$200 to $600+ depending on condition.
My first concern would be if the nickel plating is factory or aftermarket.

I have a S&W model 60, 38 spl, stainless, hammerless with a serial number on the butt of R102587. Purchased this many years ago from a retired NARC. Another set of numbers on the cylinder carriage is 33364.

I am not sure how you measure barrel length but the length from the cylinder to the barrel end is 1-3/4 inches.

Any idea as to the age?

Hi everyone.

I just joined and could use some info (ie, date of manufacture) on my dad's old service revolver. It's a six-shot, blued, fixed-sight, taper barreled 38 special. The hammer and trigger are case hardened. I believe he picked it up used in the late 60's or early 70's. The serial number on the bottom of the grip frame is C89xxxx.

Appreciate any help.

Hi. I just purchased a S&W Breaktop 38. I don't even know the model of it, but I purchased it because the condition is magnificent.

38 Breaktop, 5 shot .38 revolver. Nickel plated, mother of pearl grips which are yellowed around the screws and the guy I bought it from speculated that are factory. Serial number 273xx.

Any help in ship date or value would be greatly appreciated!

Pictures are good!
It's a .38 Double Action 2nd Model.
Serial numbers ran from 4001 in 1880 to 119000 in 1884.
Standard grip material was black or red mottled rubber, although mother of pearl may have been a factory option.

Serial Number 30D5xxx. I know it was made mid 80's

Value is about $400.

The book shows serial numbers ending at 21D0883 in 1983 but then notes they continued until 30D9292. So, between 1983 and 1988.
The gun itself is around $350 but the grips are very desirable factory K frame square butt combats and would sale for $100+ easy by themselves.
