thanks for the time here are some pics
Good pics, they helped a lot. This appears to be the last of the S&W top breaks, the .38 Double Action Perfected Model. It was made from 1909 to 1920. S/N range was from 1 to 59400. Yours would most likely have been made around 1910.

I believe the number 5272 is the serial number, not sure what the number 3310 means. It appears to have been added after the revolver left the factory.

Let me try again. I seem to be having problems posting ever since I did an edit.

Anyway, I am trying to find information on a SW serial #C289965 .38 special that is a least 50 years old.

Thank you for your time and help.

Thanks for the information. Are these guns valuable or just the normal $300 old S&W?. This gun is not currently in the US so I just want to know if is worth it to bring it back.

Thanks in advance.

It would be a model 66 (-1) made in 1978/79.

After 2004. That's the latest the SCSW covers.
A phone call to S&W's customer service will get you the DOB over the phone for free.

history of my 32 top break

I'm trying to find out the year my .32 smith and wesson top break was made. There is no writing on the revolver besides the serial number on the bottom of the handle # 184669. I have pics if they will help. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

29-5 BJC-81XX when was this made?

I wasn't sure if the first digit was a B or 8. It seems that the serials have a three letter prefix though. Thanks for the help.

Assuming it even is a S&W, that serial number could be two different models.
If it has a hidden hammer and grip safety then it could be a 32 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model. SN's ran from 170000 in 1909 to 242981 in 1937.
If it's a double action with exposed hammer then it could be a 32 Double Action 4th Model. SN's ran from 43406 in 1883 to 282999 in 1909.

S&W semi auto serial number data is very incomplete in the SCSW after 1993.
Your best bet is to call S&W's customer service. They will give you the DOB over the phone for free.

calling S&W

Thanks for the reply Jim. I read a earily post about calling their CS, so I called and called all day today, never could get anyone to answer, other than the recorded message.
I'm thinking 2002 or later on this gun, one of the papers that I got with it had a copyright date of 2002, it may or maynot mean anything.
I'll try again tomorrow and hopefully someone will answer.

RE: age of my S&W

Well perseverance paid off. I called S&W again this morning, got put on hold for about 20 minutes but got the information I was looking for. that paper that had the date was actually the DOB . So this 908 , as the CS tech said, , is not even a teenager yet LOL. Love the gun, best 350 I've spent in awhile.
Thanks
