Real old revolver??
When I moved into the 9th ward of New Orleans by my self, a good friend of mine gave me this gun.. I know its vary old, I would love to know how ancient it is. she's a 38 special otg,2988xx and also after combing through a number of these posts, if its safe to use normal rounds in it?
thank you for any and all help! Last edited by erin13; July 30, 2011 at 12:08 AM. |

Dave Anderson:
Thank you for the video. Well done. Don't beat yourself up about the mistake. Even I have made one once. Of course that was when I thought I had made a mistake. My specimen has little rust spots (well oiled now). It was left unattended for about 20 years. It's a great shooter. I will dispose of it because I am old, can't see the sights, and no one in my family is an enthusiast. That pistol has the cleanest breaking trigger I have ever felt. Thank you again for your help. |

Greetings;
New to the forum....(by the way, great forum!) I'm trying to find out the model and year of a breakdown hammer action .38......Serial# 1850xx A couple pics are posted here... http://newview10.tripod.com Also...should I leave it in it's original condition, (keep the patina, etc) or should I clean it up? I'm thinking of finding out a value & selling it. ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! |

Serial numbers ran from 119001 in 1884 to 322700 in 1895. Leave it original. Value is not high, likely less than $300. Quote:
Use only standard 38 special rounds, no +P. "otg" is actually ctg which means cartridge. Quote:
Great gun, I have a 952-2 myself. Jim |

I could use some help also.
Can anyone tell me the approximate age and value of a Smith and Wesson 6 shot revolver, Serial # K 113XXX (someone posted to use an x for the last three numbers)? I forgot to add that it is a .38 caliber/double action and he says that it looks to be in really good shape. It belongs to a friend of mine and was his fathers. Thank you Last edited by ARZMADMAN; July 30, 2011 at 06:47 PM. |

Value range is ~ $400 to $600 depending on condition. More if it still has the original box, tools, papers, etc. Jim |

I've got no info.....
Hey guys, I'm a newb to the forum. I'd go buy the S&W book, but I've only got one.
I'm trying to figure out the worth of all my guns and make sure my home owners insurance is high enough but I can't even figure out model of this pistol. It's a 357 mag, no model number anywhere on it. SN is D991547 has a couple other markings on the frame under the grips (an L in a triangle and a B in a circle) Like I said, this is my only S&W and I know nothing about it other than it belonged to my father in law and was given to me when he died. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Last edited by Glenn E. Meyer; November 30, 2013 at 11:47 AM. |

My Dad passed down a S&W revolver, says that it belonged to his dad, but has no other information on it. It is 6-shot, stainless, says 32 Long CTG on the side of the barrel, and has the numbers 156xxx stamped below the grip, can anyone help with the model and approx date of the gun?

Thank you, Jim. It appears that I got one of the last 586s. Bought it today at my LGS - looked like it had never been fired.

Serial numbers ran from 91418 in 1902 to 170000 in 1909. It shoots the 32 S&W cartridge which is a shorter version of the 32 S&W Long. Jim |

My new 686
So I finally made the plunge and got my first revolver. Decided on a S&W 686 with a 6inch barrel. Shoots very well but was interested on it's history.
Serial number is CAC1xxx. Thanks. |
