S&W Model 19-3 manufacture date

My cousin's husband recently passed away and I bought his Model 19-3 from her. It is nickled with a 4" barrel and is in excellent shape. The serial number is 2K593xx. Can you tell me when it was made ? I'm guessing is was in the 60's.

I can't help you with the engraving.
If you want to know what model and date of manufacture I can help you.
Is the .38 a modern swing out cylinder or an older break top? Is it a 5 or 6 shot?
Take the serial number from the underside of the frames grip butt.

Thanks Jim ! I wasn't very far off. The box it was in is a gray cardboard box. I've only seen the blue boxes, so I knew it was pretty old.

During that time period, grey boxes were for nickeled guns.

That's not the serial number. Take it from the underside of the frames grip butt. You'll probably have to remove the grips to see it. Should have a three letter prefix followed by four numbers.
That said, 29-4's ran from 1988 to 1993.

Hi, whilst cleaning out a cabinet in my late grandfathers garage i came across a S & W .38 with the serial number 228XXX. I was wondering if I may possibly get a date of birth please? Thank you.

38/44 Serial Number help please

Any Info would be appreciated Dates etc.
My Dad has a 38/44 N frame S&W with a serial S67XXX
It is a 5" Barrel blue former service revolver.
Both front and rear sights seem to be modified as the front is not dime shaped but cut down in the rear on an angle and serrated the rear sight is not adjustable but has a grove cut across the rear sight with a metal sight installed.
I can not get pic at this time but if it is necessary I can try.

Thanks Eaglerider

Have a K-22 that I think is a 5 screw model made in 1954 but would like to confirm. Serial number is on the butt of the revolver. Has a K on one side and 229xxx on the other. In other words there is a lot of space in between the K and the numbers, but both are on the butt of the grip. Thanks in advance.

Let It Bleed, yup '54.

I have a '48 M&P with the same long space between the K and #'s (love The Stones)

eaglerider, '47

mikejonestkd, my SCS&W lists the #'s from '62 starting w/ 295000 then the next listing is '69 w/796544. My best guess would be '65.

b79holmes, '69

Nrozelle, If it's a M&P (Military and Police) it would be sometime between 1913-1915. That's my best guess, the listing in the SCS&W has 1909-1915 listed as 146900-241703.

Thanks for the knowledge bumnote. Yep. gotta love the Stones. Even as grandpas they can put on a hell of a show. Plus most of their best music didn't get radio play, but anyhoo, do you know what year S&W went from 5 screw to 4 screw?

I have 2 for ya

19-3 P&R 8K15xxx

28-2 P&R N9xx

Also on my 28-2 there is a fitting over the stock trigger making it wider then normal. outside the trigger guard on one side and it is fixed to the regular trigger via 2 small allen screws. does that ring any bells with anyone?

8K15xxx = 1975.
N9xx = SN's ran from N1 in 1970 to N60000 in 1972, so most likely 1970.

It's called a trigger shoe.
