Why No .22 Rimfire Interest?

I usually warm up with my Browning Buckmark just to focus on trigger control and to help my focus. I start new shooters on the Buckmark to build confidence and reduce flinching. I picked up ammo anytime I saw a deal so I am sitting on over 10,000 rounds of .22. If prices go through the roof, I might be tempted to sell some off.

It’s the only rimfire I have that has issues with CCIs. It’s happy with the Federals and prints about as well as I can manage with the Target Gold or Gold Match whichever the name is. If it had issues with everything I’d be more concerned, but it’s got an ammo it likes and shoots it well. Just an interesting data point.

The effort difference is needing to actually push the bolt up with your hand and just using your fingers. It’s bizarre and I’d probably contact CZ about it but it’s the wife’s and isn’t shot much. She’s happy with the Federals and would be less happy if it had to go back to CZ.

I may measure some of casings and see I just managed to get weird CCIs or if the Feds are just smaller.

I would think that most manufacturers use the same case forming machinery for all varieties of their ammo.

So I’m out of the Federal, but my CCIs (SVs & MiniMags) measuared out between .2230-.2235.

I never got much out of shooting.22's. Been shooting pistols for years, and I have a Ruger Mark II. I'm more accurate with my Sig X-Five, even using crappy ammo, and each magazine holds 20 rounds. Cost of shooting crappy 9mm vs. good .22LR is not any big difference to me.

When we were little, Dad taught brother and I to shoot with a Ruger .22 revolver, and a Remington Targetmaster .22 rifle.

Now have a revolver and rifle somewhat similar to both, and enjoy them very much. The .22 ammo shortage era was very annoying.

I went back to the range to zero my 10/22 yesterday, in preparation for today's Appleseed shoot. I'm still astounded at the fact that I'd almost forgotten how much fun a good .22 can be. I want to just go ahead and buy another case of ammo.

A long time ago, a bunch of my friends were at an indoor range. I tossed an empty shot shell in and pulled out the .22. We all chased the shot shell all the way to the back of the range. Loads of fun. Punching tiny groups in paper can get boring after a while, especially with how accurate some of these guns can be. Surprisingly enough, I saw a few people compete in a bowling pin match with a .22. While there is very little recoil, you had better hit the pin in the neck to knock it over. If the pin falls sideways, you'll never clear it off the table with a .22. I used my STI Edge in .40 and cleared those pins easily. I've only gotten to do it once, but it was loads of fun!

Unabashed .22 fan here. I really enjoy my .22 collection. For that matter, I enjoy all of my other guns as well. I own more .22s than any other single caliber. Hard to beat an afternoon with a couple of plinkers and a bunch of ammo. Fun for a fraction of the price.

Before I go on a thread search, has anyone here had any experience with the CZ autoloader .22? I thinks it's the 512?

Yes. Very accurate with the heaviest really good trigger I recall on any 22lr; it's smooth but maybe 8 pounds. It doesn't permit an open bolt and safety on, which can be a problem for some programs.

Zukiphile- Ya know? I just might halfway keep an eye out for one of the 512 Americans in .22WMR... since they don't seem to be very intent on bringing one out in .17HMR.

For my money, if I wanted a CZ in either of those calibers I would look for a 452 or 455. Those allow trigger spring tinkering and can be free floated.

Still, I can't deny that the 512 makes an off the shelf 10/22 seem unfathomably crude.

To be fair, an off the shelf 10/22 is rather crude particularly with the basic models. The beauty is in the aftermarket support more than how Ruger delivers them. This isn’t meant to say they are bad rifles, because they aren’t. They are very good rifles, I just wouldn’t say they leave Ruger with the highest fit & finish.. They just don’t give off the same quality feeling as other options, like the 512.

I’m spoiled by the quality of more than one of my .22s, it’s made it hard to love the factory 10/22s. Ended up with a TacSol X-Ring instead. Expensive, but the fit & finish are more in line with my desires and building one would have ended up in the same price range.

I already have a 452 Ultra Luz in .22lr, a 455 Trainer in .22lr, and 455 Scout in .22lr, and a 455 Trainer in .17HMR. So after watching a video by some guy named Scootch (or something similar), that itch for a 512 just won't go away. I've also got a Marlin bolt in .22WMR, a 10-22 in .22lr (but we don't talk much these days), a Lakefield .22, 2 Marlin 60's, a Rem 540X, a Savage SA from late 50's or so, and a small herd of .22lr handguns. So I'm fairly sure I could make room for a 512 American- Right?

I have a Super BRNO 2500, but when I head out to the range I take a 10/22 based item. It has a different barrel, stock and bolt (lots of polish), but it's just a thing of which I could buy or sell another. The CZ is too beautiful to suffer dings or scratches, so it mostly lives on my rack.

Not this guy. A .22 rim fire rifle goes along on every range trip.

After about 10-20 rounds from a center fire rifle having light recoil i fire about 20 rounds from the .22. If the center fire rifle has considerable recoil i fire 10-20 rounds of .22 between each three or five shot group.

Lots of love for the .22LR here! I have far more rifles chambered for it than I should admit to (my girlfriend can't keep track of the number... ) with plans for/eyes on even more.

But I'm a weirdo and even have my best scopes mounted on my .22s. Which reminds me of another topic I've been meaning to start recently. Be right back!

When I "need" a gun around the farm my .22 is the most grabbed rifle I have. Granted I am normally carrying a 10MM pistol so it gets used more but most of the time for whatever pest is at it the .22 is what I go to.
