Can you lighten up the safety on a Mossberg 500 youth?
I bought my grandson a Mossberg 500 gold trigger youth model for turkey hunting this year. But the top slide safety is stiffer than it needs to be imo. The top screw is one of those turn clockwise only type so I can't get it off to put a drop of oil down inside.
Any ideas as to how to soften this up a tad? Thanks.

I found a replacement tactical slide that should work much better plus I was able to loosen the one-way screw so I'm all set.

I bought one for mine that had a talon/hook shape on the top that works pretty good. This style works great for using gloves.
With that ball detent I bet a fraction of a turn makes a big difference.

I had that same issue with one.
Take the safety off carefully, there is a spring under the small ball. Cut one ring off the spring and reinstall. If that’s not enough cut a 1/2 a ring at a time. Worked great. |

I would be really careful. I have a stoeger shotgun (different from Mossberg of course) that I had to have warranty work done to because the tang safety was too loose and would be activated by recoil. Not fun when you're trying to shoot doubles in clays.
Also had double fires, that didn't feel good. They fixed it quickly though! |

The spring is simply to stout. If you tried one on a super bantam 500 you would understand.
I understand your concern but the amount of pressure it takes to get that safety off is ridiculous to say the least. |
