Side Hammer Revolver
Here is another old gun that I got in box of junk deal. They have been in a basement for
over 50yrs. In a cardboard shoe box. This one had a old rusty spike nail for axel. I made one out of brass bot don't like the looks. When I'm done with clean up I'll make steel one. I think gun is a Allen, but not sure yet. Gun minus grips is now soaking in Kroil. This is number two of seven, none are cream puffs! |

I think you are correct; it is an Allen sidehammer. I assume the caliber is .22. The barrel would originally have been marked either Allen & Wheelock (more likely) or Ethan Allen & Co. There was a series of eight issues, that one would be a third to seventh issue. They were made 1858-1865, for a total of only about 1500. Unfortunately, this is a case where neither age nor rarity will add up to much money; in that condition, it would likely sell for under $200.
It looks like the hammer spur might have been broken off at some time and repaired. Jim |

Side hammer
Gun is 22, hammer is knurled not repaired. Still in Kroil. Working on o/u with
knife blade between barrels. Don't think it's going to be worth anything, really bad shape. Thanks Drm50 |
