Springfield making ammo short

Anybody loading for a Springfield xd?

I've been having problems with my win. 180gr jhp's clambering into my gun. They're fine in my dads glock but my ramp must be steeper because when I chamber a round in (even just once) it jams the bullet too far into the case and I can't figure out what to do different in order to make it work

I've got some 200gr hornedy xtp's that chamber just fine and the bullet stays put but they're a slightly different shape (more rounded on the tip) could it just be the shape of the Winchester is not compatible with my gun? Because none of my ball ammo does this either.

Any ideas? Much appreciated!

Not every gun likes every bullet. If your XD won't feed then it is time to try a different bullet. You can try adjusting OAL up or down. You could spend some money and have a gunsmith tune the XD. I would try abullet with a different profile. You can always sell or trade the bullets that are not working.

Be advised that pushing the bullet deeper into the case can cause serious problems especially with a high pressure handgun round like the 40 S&W. If this is happening, stop using that ammo.

My 1911 9mm is finicky about ammo also. It became less so with a good feed ramp polish. Im not familiar with the XD, does it have a steep feed ramp like a 1911? As others said, pull that short ammo apart and dont shoot it. Try a diferent bullet profile.

Same as a Glock, barrel has an integral feed ramp

Mobuck gives sound advice on this one. Bullet set back will cause massive overpressure conditions by reducing volume. Select a different bullet profile to improve reliability. Hornady XTP or anything with a flat meplat should help.

Yeah I know it's not a good idea to shoot it after its seated too deep, I've switched to the hornedy bullets (they feed fine and don't get shorter lol). But bullets are getting harder and harder to find near me.

Ill play with oal a little more and keep my eyes peeled for different bullet profiles and see if I can find a new 180gr that works for my gun. I know hornedy makes a 180gr bullet I just can't find any. Anyone have any suggestions on a good bullet manufacturer to try out?

And as for the ramp I'm not sure if its the same as a 1911 or not I've never had the chance to play with a 1911 and this xd is all I own so my knowledge is limited to my gun, my dads glock, step mom's sig and whatever I can get my hands on at the gunshop

I recently bought 1000 nosler 180 HP, and 1000 180 lead bullets for my XD40. Will let you know. About 4000 rounds of all kinds of stuff through the pistol and its never missed a lick even once. Load safe, HOOSIER

I've got an xd45 and have not had any issues with my loads. But I dont load a large variety of bullets either. Mainly LRN 200 and 230 grain for my plinking enjoyment.
