Optics for AR10

I know that this subject has been discussed more than a few times, but her goes anyway.

I recently acquired a Sig Sauer 716 Patrol rifle, and unfortunately my eyes have become bad enough that I need some kind of magnification to get decent results from the rifle. I have been looking at either an ACOG (not too crazy about most of the available reticles) or perhaps a low power Leupold MK4, like the MR/T 1.5-5 X 20. I have a budget of $1500 or so. Weight is a small consideration, as is size. Mostly though, I'm looking for something that has good glass, and is military grade tough.

The rifle will most likely never be used past 300 yards. Possibly for deer hunting, but most likely just for target shooting.

Any suggestions?

I bought an IOR Valdada (3-18 X 42) to put on a .308 build last year and really like it (what I paid is in your price range). The glass is super clear, clicks in turrets are solid and it's built like a tank. If I remember right, the reticle has 9 illumination settings. Here is the new version of what I have: http://www.valdada.com/scopes/tactic...3-18-x-42-35mm Mine was in IOR's displace case in CO and they made me a deal.

One of the new 1-5 or 1-6 power scopes (Vortex) would work very well and still keep added weight to a minimum.

I missed the part about weight; the 3-18 Valdada might be a bit hefty for what the OP wants.

Can run anywhere from $800-$1500 depending on which one you get, it is a laser scope, and is one of the best scopes on the market. It designates your target and shows with a red dot on the crosshair exactly where you need to shoot. I think you will love it, search Burris Eliminator on YouTube and watch the instructional video on it. Perfect for an AR-10.

If it's not past 300yds, then I'd be good with a 1-4x, 1-6x, or 2.5-10x.

Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x
Swarovski 1-6x
NightForce 2.5-10x
NF 1-4x

With a $1500 budget...these scopes should be doable. The NF, you may have to shop around.

I did get to take a look through a Nightforce at the range this last weekend, and I was impressed to say the least.
