What uses .222" bullets?

There's a bit of a back story but the bottom line is that I have a bag of about 98 Prvi Partisan 45-grain, polymer-tip bullets in .222" diameter that aren't suitable for my purpose, and I have nothing that calls for a .222" bullet.

What do they fit? If anyone loads something in a .222" diameter and can use these bullets, send me a PM.

Spec diameter for .22 Remington Magnum "Jet."

But are they too long nosed for the Jet? I dunno.

Probably work in a 5.45 Sov, nominal .221".

Seem's to me the 45ga 222 bullet was made for the 22 Hornet!

Nope. 22 Hornet is .224" except for old Winchesters that took .223". .222" fits .22 Jet or 5.45X39 Russian, and since they are 45 gr plastic tipped that eliminates 22 Jet.

What about .222 Remington? Oops brain finally kicked in they use .224 bullets if I remember right. Wait a minute, why then do they call it a 222?

Nope.
.218 Bee, .219 Zipper, .220 Swift, .221 Fireball, .222 Remington, .223 Remington, .224 Weatherby, and .225 Winchester all shoot .224" bullets.
But .22 Jet, old .22 Hornet, and .22 Savage don't.

Don't forget the .22-250 is also .224" bullets.

Some old .22 Hornets used .223" bullets but after WWII, not so much...

.222" bullets (40gr or less) were for the .22 RemJet, a necked down .357 case. Never very popular due to the cases backing up in S&W revolver. That gun also came with chamber inserts for shooting .22LR and the bore was kind of a compromise size so the rimfire would shoot acceptably well.

The .22 Savage High Power used .228" bullets. I don't think anyone living today knows why,

If they were fairly blunt soft points, I'd say they were for the JET, but having polymer tips, means something fairly recently made, and that points to some European or (former) Combloc round though I don't know the exact dia for the 5.45mm ones.

Edit to add:
Just checked the all knowing and infallible Wikipedia and they say 5.45x39mm bullet diameter is .220" so if they're right, that seems the most likely round for the .222" poly tipped bullets you have.

I didn't, but it doesn't fall in a numerical sequence like the others.
Regional colloquialism is to call .22-250 the "250". Real .250 Savages are scarce.

Considering the source, that's probably an excellent supposition. Although at 45 grains the bullet is light for a 5.45x39.

I dunno. I have them, just don't know what to do with them.

Interesting, is that a southern thing? I've lived in the northeast and the northwest and its always been .22-250 or "Varminter" if you're old enough to remember before it was a factory standardized round.

Since they are from old com-bloc Europe, the bullets could have been made for the PSM.
But those guns are pretty scarce in this country and the bullets are probably a bit long for the pistol magazine as well.
