Is anyone going to do the NRA Mentor May thing?

I take undergrads from my university shooting quite often,,,
In most cases they have never fired a gun before then.

So in essence I'm already "mentoring" new shooters,,,
It would be nice to win a sweepstakes prize though.

I read several different webpages on the American Rifleman website,,,
Apparently all you need to do is sign up on their entry page.

Here is a link to the main article.

I am a bit confused though,,,
In truth this looks like a scheme to get e-mail addresses.

I'm not opposed to that in theory but I wonder about it's root mission.

I found the page to enter in the Mentor May Sweepstakes,,,
But I can't find any requirements/policies/procedures.

One would think there would be some need to document,,,
That mentoring had actually taken place.

What do you folk think this is?

An opportunity to get the idea of taking your friends to the range in front of more people. I'm all for it.

Taking a New Shooter to the Range

Hmm....

If I wanted to take a new shooter to the range for an afternoon...where would I fine one?

I'd certainly do a deal where they paid the range fee and I supplied the guns and ammo...seems fair to me.

We would have to meet ahead of time to go over safety rules, I'm guessing this would be a three to four hour total commitment, anybody think it would be more for a single range session?

Maybe we need a 'big shooter' program like a 'big brother' program to link the new shooters with the mentors...or maybe the NRA is doing that with their program and I'm missing it at their web site.
