S&W 3914 build date

I picked up a real nice 3914, can anybody give me a build date on this pistol? #TEC 2369, thanks terry.

My understanding is that if you call S&W customer service with a model & serial number, they can look up date of production for some (but not all) models.

I think 1990 is the first year for the 3914. I am almost certain. A friend got one in july 1990, they had not been out for long.

There was a recall on the grips for early third generation pistols. The updated grips have a dimple on the bottom between the square cutout and the frame. The old ones could shatter on impact.

If yoy happen to have the original box, the actual DAY is shown on the end label, in Julian date form, under the SPEC ORDR headline.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson shows the first year of the 3914 as 1990 but also shows serial prefix TED (which you would assume comes after TEC) as 1989. There are known discrepancies with the book so take the information as being "close" vs "exact".
