I want to build my own 1911

I would love to be able to build my own 1911. I have a shop to assemble the weapon but I do not want to have to machine anything.

I need to know about how much it will cost (just a basic model, nothing fancy) figuring parts

The estimated time it will take to get parts and to assemble.

And finally where can I order all the parts in one place?

Thanks you everyone

Reminds me of a video I watched the other day you might find it interesting.

Check the Fusion website, they sell premachined/fitted kits. I think Brownells sells something similar.

Well, you don't want to have to fit or machine anything, and you want to get all the parts at the same place and I assume you want a guarantee all the pieces will actually fit together...

Might I suggest you go to a large gun store that has a gunsmith, buy the 1911 you like and have them take it apart for you and send you home with the pieces???

(Well wouldn't that accomplish what he's asking for?)

Building the perfect beast...

There are a few older posts that bring up resources related to this subject.

In short, see these websites; www.gunvideo.com www.midwayusa.com www.brownells.com www.e-gunparts.com www.nra.org www.deltapress.com www.paladin-press.com www.natchezss.com www.10-8performance.com

Brownells has a 1911 series catalog filled with parts & accessories.
For 1911a1 barrels, Id get a Bar-Sto, KKM or Jarvis.

You can get everything to assemble a 1911 from Brownells. You can also get everything from Sarco. The frames, slides and barrels from Brownells will all be "name" brand stuff, top quality, and expensive. The slides and frames from sarco are made by Armscor and will be identical to the parts used in Rock Island 1911s. Sarco will include their house brand ("Roto") barrel, which is a surprisingly good barrel for the price.

The choice comes down to how much you want to spend..

they do indeed. definitely make sure you get the matched slide, barrel, frame kits. don't try to buy any of those 3 separate. trust me, it's a nightmare. they do make some nice parts, just don't ask them to do any custom work. i waited 9 months for mine.

Of course you have considered that when you are finished and have a working handgun, it will not likely get as much as you paid for it if you decide/have to sell it?

most definitely. why buy something of questionable quality when you can buy something from a reputable custom shop for (probably) cheaper?

I built one several years ago from an 80% casting. It was my first pistol and I did learn a lot. You won't save any money in building your own. The parts will need to be hand fit so there will be some work. But that's part of the fun.

DaleA's suggestion fills the bill.
